E. 1., Feb. 20-The community oi Bangor, Prince Ed- ward Island which is situated a- bout four miles from the nearest Canadian National Railways sta- tion. Morell, seems to have solved the problem of cooperative liv- ing. It has been going on now for the past twenty years and is well organized. The community is made up of upwards of one hundredsouls including men, women and child- ren and at their head is Captain John Compton a comparatively young man who took over the reins ‘\oi' office from his late uncle Ben i Compton. The uncle started (_ iscuss Feedi the enterprise and the community now owns some thousand acres of land which is fanned oo-operatively. There are community tractors and other community farm machinery and a community sailing vessel, and in the fall oi the year Captain John Compton takes the produce - and sells it ior the common fund. There is also a eo-operative store and all monies are put 1n the bank to the credit oi the community as a whole. when s, young iellow wishes to get married the com- munity sets him up on n, farm with e house which the community {ur- nlshes. All of the farms are work- ed oo-operatively and there "are community barns and other build- ings of like nature. The commun- ity is one oi the most law abiding on the Island and has its own church, the people are of Scottish descent snd are an offshoot oi the lVIacDonaaldites, a religious sect which still has adherents on Prince Edward Island. The members of the community dress the some as other people in the vicinity and through their oo-operative manage- ment seem to have escaped the rigors of the ,present depression. Dear Father Maurice: - The time has come when fare- wells are in order and to us here assembled it is a particularly sad time in one respect, and a happy one in another. The natural sad- ness oi losing-or .rather saying good-bye-to a life-long friend is uppermost in our minds; ,0n the other hand we know your life ln your new field will be a pleasant change after nearly o. quarter of a century of the toil and turmoil of city activity. In response Mrs. Casey said that it was a source of much gratifi- cation to theC. W.
