The convention opened with a full attendance from all the polls. Mr. J. J. McNally, who occupied the chair, opened with a short speech. He congratulated the delegates on the large number in at- tendance. He referred to the doathof the late memiler, Mr. James Rich- nrds, and anno need tllnt the meeting was to appoint a candidate to fill his place. A Resolution of condolence to the family of the late Mr. Richards wasread by Mr. W. Il. Hayes. of Eller- .slie and was unanimously adopted. The name of Mr. John Richards ' was then presented to the Convention as the candidate to contest the next Dominion election and he was chosen by the unanimoup vote of the conven- tion. Mr. Richards replied in a short speech thanking the £elegates for the nomination, alsothe indly references made by the chairman to the death of his`father. the late Capt. Wm. Rich- ards, and for the letter of condolence in reference to his brother, the late Mr. James Richards. At the aftemoon meeting the convention was addressed by Mr. 'J. J.
