The Panthers this year fea- ture speed and defence, augmenting a fast-break game which should pro vide exciting basketball for their legion supporters. Figur- ing prominently in their plans are Andy Packard and Brian "Big C" f’fihaughnessy, two rookies up from the States. Packard, from Presque Isle, Maine, should give. the Panthers strength on the board and also has an excellent scoring touch from around the hoop. Coach Vince Mullig gan has a major rebuilding job with only seven returnees from last years squad,who : last years were finalists in the Island Junior “B” play- downs. This year the league consists of six teams. U.P. E.I. ,Summerside,Colone1 Gray, Sherwood-Farkdale, 0?'Leary and a new entry from Montague. The schedule consists of 36 league games with U.P.E.I.playing a re- ‘ duoed schedule of 18, four point games. S.V. league by moving up to third place, as a result of the competion which took place on Thursday night. Panther hockey team will get their first taste of competition this_year when.they clash with the Sir Georgeiiilliams bniver- sity hockey team from Fontreal this Sunday,0ctober 31 at 2:00. It should be quite an interesting match,for the Sir George team is rated as one of best five university hockey teams in the nation,while the U.P.E.I.team will be composed mostly of freshmen. Coach Jack Kane feels that the hockey Panthers will be able to form the nucleus of a strong team as a result of the powerful opposition they will face,both against Sir George,and against the teams competing in the St.F.X. Invitational Tournament from November L6.
