James At Springfield (Formerly Freetown) The districts which first consti- tuted this mission were Emerald. Freetown, Bummerfield, Irlshtown and Park Corner. The mission as it now exists was formed in from portions of the parishes St. Mary's, Indian River and St. Malschy, Kinkors. although long prior to that date there was a. lit- tle church in the district oi Park Corner, which is knowe to history as the "Irishtown Church." In the year 1528, Bishop Mac- Donald, then priest in charge of the western section of Prince Ed- land from one, Charles Doyle of Park Corner, and built a chapel upon it. and consecrated a ceme- tery. In that chapel Father Mac- Donald held s station twice a year and the custom was followed by his successors until the year 1855, whfi Father James MacDonald, then priest in charge of Indian River and the adjoining missions, sold the chapel to one, James Doyle, who pulled it down and built him- self a dwelling house with the scantling and lumber. This tran- saction closed the history of the Irlshtown Church. . . . The inundation stone at the ipnrillh church oi Summeriield wss yield on the 25th of October. 1665, yby the Most Rev.
