As the financial 'position of the Hospital is fully disclosed by the report of the. Treasurer and has been fully dealth with by MI. Cot- ton, Chairman -of the Finance Committee. any further comment nn this subject is unnecessary. The statistical l-eport of the Treasurer also gives full information as to the work done during the year and very little comment is necessary. In our report last year we gave the public a very complete history of the progress the Hospital has made since 1883 and we trust all interested have kept their copy of that report for reference and valu- able information concemlng what the Hospital has accomplished in this period of fifty four years. Dur- ing the year just closed the Hos- pital has given to the public the greatest amount of service in any one year of its existence, the number of patient days being 19249 as against 18294 patient days. for the preceding year. Our free work was a trifle less than 1935-36, being $10,416.00 this year, compar ed with 519,912 last year. On the other hand our patients unpaid ac- counts are considerably larger he- irig $11,614.00 compared with $10.- 855 last year. It would appear from these figures that more people have been making an effort to pay for their Hospital care rather than enter as free patients and we be- lieve quite a good part of these unpaid accounts will in time be paid. You will be pleased to note that our cost per patient day was only $3.00 compared with $3.06 last year and $3.15 for the year 1934-35. Considering that. the cost of nearly everything used in the Hospital has increased slightly this reflects very croditably on the Superintendent and her staff. An important testes to the satisfactory work done in a Hospital is the average number of days one patient remains in the Hospital. This was 10 3-4 days last year as against 25.6 days in 1895. One of the great objectives of Hos- pitals is to cut down this average. ‘thereby lessening the period of suffering and greatly 'reducing the» P88 g pl - L "°* Hospital wiii be sim eo know the.; possible.
