Mr. Amos Adams, a brother of the post master at that plaice, was taking in hay about seven p. m. wlven he ex- pired in the hay loft. He was at once removed in the open air and efforts were mildew at resuscitation but without avail. Mr. Adams was a man of about fifty years of agl: and was much respected in the community. The lextreme heat and over-exertion was no doubt the cause of death. In Memoriam On July 13th ‘a. gloom was cast over the parish of Our Lady of Per- petual Help. Richmond Hill, Dong‘ Island N. Y. when it was announce-j that the Angel of Death had visited the family of Mr and Mrs. Joseph Kenny, and removed from their midst their bright, promising and eldest. son Thomas Joseph, 16 years old. All through life this exemplary youth enjoyed excellent health. The world smiled upon him and the prospects of a. brilliant career in the great world were encouraging. June 27th dawned and he showed signs of unusual fatigue, Suddenly his strength began to fall and his devoted parents ‘deemed it prudent to call in the Physcian. When the latter arrived he found that he ‘had an attack of Spinal Meningitis. He was immediately conveyed to Jamaica hospital. The first few days. fond hopes were entertained for his recovery, but not withstanding skill- ful medical treatment and tender nursing he succumbed to his fatal ailment on July 13th. thus termini- ating his short career by what is popularly termed an untimely death. Possessed of a. kind and cheerful disposition Thomas J. Kenny en- deared himself ito all. young and old. Here we may rightly use the words of a poet. parents docile and obedient. With his companions he was al- ways kind and courteous. And never was he known to use an unkind or unscemingly word. He was in every respect. "Just such a son, ‘Who would make glad the hearts of any parents.“ The most remarkable feat- ure of his virtuous life was how- ever, his disposition toward tho practice of Religion. He was a fre- quent recipient at the Holy Tabla and extraordinary piety and grace- fulness in sewing at the altar won the admiration of evcrbody. For four years he held the dis- tinquished privilege of being an al- tar boy in the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Twas in the sanctuary of this sacred edifice that the ‘jmcnts of his young. heart were poured forth to his Lord and Master with the simplicity of -s child. In this connection it must be re- markable that he found special pleasure in ‘being present at all the ceremonies of the church, and won the highest esteem ‘and respect of the Rev. Clergy. To all appearance. it cost him nothing to comply with regulations. Yet a careful study of the character of this exemplary PRIVATE SALE D E Q to " MIL D. I. As to manners he was always a model politeness and good taste. He was always prompt to forgive and if he had inadvertently offend- ed,ihe"was not oiie of those who stand upon their dignity and lay down conditions of forgiveness. When the news of his death became known it produced a profound impression upon all; who knew him intimately and all felt unanimous in the sentiment that they were separated for a. while from a soul that was a. sort of special link with the unseen world. At one time the prevailing sentiment was ioy at the thought that he had been taken away from the wiles of Satan and and that wicked world. At. another. realizing our irreparable loss we found it difficult to restrain our feelings of regret. During his illness in the hospital he was frequently visited by the Rev Francis J. Cann- ing, who like an Angel of Mercy‘ administered to his spiritual wants. Needless to assert, his death bed scene was a tranquil one his soul being fortified bywthe rites of Holy Mother Church, a few days before its flight t0 the Great Beyond. At his bedside stood his devoted parents uttering the Prayers of the sighs and the pure , beautiful orison “My God! my Godl take me home to Thee." A heavenly smile and a few deep drawn agonizing and with that beautiful drawn sighs and the pure, beautiful soul of Thomas J. Kenny aban- doned its earthly tenement and flew to that resting place to which ii had often risen in prayerful accents the bosom of its God. The funeral took place from the church of Out Lady of Perpetual Help on “' y July 16th where a solemn r ‘ Mass was celebrated for the repose cf his soulcl by the Rev. Stephen A Cuddeback. Rev. Fathers Walsh and Guilmett being deacon and sub- deacon. A large and respectable con- gregation filled Ithe sacred edifice. After the Mas, the large funeral procession which consisted of the hearse and 17 autos bearing sor- lowlng relatives and friends drove to St. John's cemetery where all that was mortal of the deceas ‘l was laid io rest. Thus ending the earthly career of one of the ideal Altar boys. of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. The many_ tributes paid to his, memory since his decease. The‘ largo gathering that graced his funeral obsequies were eloquent testimonials of his worth ito the people of Richmond Hill. A sorrow- ing Father and Mother, three sisters and one brother survive him, be- sides a large circle of relatives and friends throughout Canada and the United States, Mr and Mrs. Thomas Kenny.
