Selected are Frank Jackson Ellis and John A. Roy of 53 Sum- _fmerside Squadron; Gerald Ber- nard Soy and Roger Ira Clark of 60 Charlottetown Squadron and Terrance Perry of 641 Tignish Squadron. Cadet Soy has been selected for overseas exchange visits and Cadet Clark and Cadet Roy for RCAF. flying training scholar- ships. Cadet Ellis was named for a senior leader’s course while Cadet Perry will take a drill in- structor’s course. CHOSEN FROM 25,000 Chosen from over 25,000 cadets ~ have passed through joint league and RCAF selection committees at local, provincial and national im 322 squadrons, the winners | rons levels. They are rated as the “cream of the Air Cadet crop” for 1959. For 250 of the cadets, the high point of their careers has arriv- ed with the award of an RCAF scholarship covering 30 ours of actual flying instruction. Tie four weeks’ course will com- mence on July 13th, and training will be given at flying clubs across the country. Successful graduates will qualify for an Air Cadet flying badge as well as a private pilot's license. The ROAF will be supp!emen- ted later by the award of a num- ber of specialy flying scholar- ships granted by the League. One hundred cadets will re- port to RCAF Station Camp Boarden early in July to com- mence seven weeks of leadership training aimed at producing a pool of potential officers and in- structors for the Air Cadet squad- DRILL COURSE Another one hundred cadets | will attend a seven weeks’ Air Cadet Drill Instductors Course also being held at Camp Borden. -|From this group will be selected a 40-man precision drill squad which will participate with an American Air Sadet drill team in. an International Drill Display at the Canadian National Exhibi- on on August 29th. . The top Air Cadet award goes this year to 58 outstanding cadets who wiil participate in the Lea- gue’s goodwill “exchange visit<” project. Twenty-five cadets will tour the United States for three weeks this summer, visiting Washington, New York and the’ State of West Virginia. The remaining 33 cadets will fly the Atlantic to spend three weeks in the United Kingdom. From this group, eight lads will be-sefected for sightseeing jaunts to Norway, Sweden, Holland and Denmark.
