Sept. 28-(GP)-The captain and mate of the globe-girdling Ketch Argosy yesterday were released on bail after being charged with smuggling arms and ammunition into Trinidad. Capt. Dod Orsborns, famed for his gun-running exploits in the Grimsby trawler Girl Pat in 1938. and John Hodgkins were arrested Wednesday night shortly before their 80-foot vessel was seised by a police raiding party and towed to berth. Four crew members also were taken into clistody. Capt. Orsborne told authorities Sept. 9 he was on a scientific ex- peditlon seeking curative herbs in scuthern climates. After visiting West Indian colonies and South American countfies. he planned to go to New Zea and. The men were charged with smuggling chemical guns. shotguns and 4,000 rounds of ammunition into the colony. The British skip- per said he was carrying the chemical guns to test them for American firms. The Argosy was boarded and searched Sept. 14 by an armed American naval squiici under alip- ervislon of U. S. Consul General Robert Hale.
