MONTREAL MONTREAL (CP) — The Mont- real and Canadian stock ex- changes closed Monday with in- Greases on index in-alt categories: crea but banks. The losing section traded lightly all day and closed with only two changes — quarter-point losses to Commerce at 58% and Royal 81%. Steels led industrials to a gain with Dominion Foundries climb- ing 1% to a high of 52%, Atlas adding 1% at 27% and Algoma % at 40. Base metals had gains of % to Hudson Bay and Nickel and %/| Gooay to Aluminium. Papers were led to a strong showing by Brown, up 15 at 11%. Bathurst A gained 1 at 42%. Price Brothers was off %. Jamaica went to a high of climbing 1%. Quarter - point in- creases in other utilities went to B.C. Power, International Utili- ties and Nova Scotia Light at 13%. Pipelines and oils were lower. Dominion Stores lost 1% at 54 for the biggest change in foods and beverages. Ford U.S. jumped 2% to a high for the biggest assorted change, followed by General Dynamics, off 1% at 45. Production mines were active during the morning, but ‘slack- ened off later. Speculatives were mixed to lower in a narrow range. Volumes were 87,000 industrials and 306,200 mines and oils. Closing averages showed banks off .6 at 61.23, utilities up .2 at 145.8, industrials up .5 at 318.7, combined up .4 at 261.1, papers up 4.4 at 457.2 and golds up 50 at 81.85.
