McLean, of a dis- ceased eye from a little girl. As we predicted at the time, tus result hae proved most satisfactory although the case was one of the most critical knows to oculisis. j Amony the many cases Dr. McLean has trea‘ed since—his patients some weeks numbering nearly 200—was that ef Mr. Thomas L. Weod, Port Elgin, a blacksmith, who, about 8 months ago, received @ piece of steel in one eye, which ponetrated the outer coating as wellas the colored part, lodging well inside the eyeball. <A slow, chronic, inflammatory precess set in which has caused pain ever since, with gradual failure of the sight. Dr. MeLean was consulted a few months ago when he predicted the loss ef the eye, and as the steel was past re- covery, advised removal of the organ te prevent the sympathetic inflamma- mation of the otber, which would other- wise result, depriving him entirely of sight. The patient delayed until Thurs- day night of last week, when he was awakened by unusual pain in the eye, and in the merning found it sightless. He came immediately to Dr. McLean, whe. with the assistanee of Dr. Carrite, after theadministration of either by Dr. E. P. McLean, removed the eye. The surgical operatien occupied but seven minutes, while the whole treatment was concluded in 17 minutes. On Sunday moruing Mr. Weod rode home—a dis- tance of 20 miles—in a carriage, feeling but little the worse, and has since been deing exceedingly well. Since the Dr. has so thereughly established his reputatien here as fully eempetenat to deal with all cases in which the eye, ear and throat are in- volved—-specialties in which he has successiully practiced for years in the United States—he has been besought on all sides to remain here and abandon his intentions of returning to that coun- try; and we de not believe he could adept e mere humane and patriotic ceurse than te yield and settle down in his native country.—Amherst Gazette. ES. REED Sitting Bull and his entire herd is new, it appears, south ef the boundary, and in communicatien with the United States authorities on the questioa of surrender. Canada rejeices to be rid of him and his, though, upen the whole, they have behaved themselves tolerably well while sheltered on Canadian terri- tory. Should the United States Gov- ernment effect a satisfactory settlement of its Indiaw difficulties, Canada would teel greatly relieved thereby. alll aiteeibentmc Hanan is confident of success in the coming race with Trickett. A letter which he recently addressed toa friend in Montreal concludes as fellows :— “Trickett thinks he can beat any mao that sits in a boat, but when I get him aleng side of me on the water, and the werd “Go” is given, it will be a race from the siart to the finish all the way, | if he beats me. I think I am sure te win, if I keep well, and I can assure you that I will de my best on that day te get there firat, not only tor my sake and fer the sake ef my friends, but for the honor of the Dominion across the water that I love se well.’ = rarer The American People. No people in the world suffer so much with Dyspepsia as Americans. Although years of experience in medicine had failed to accomplish a certain and sure remedy for this disease and its effects, such as Sour Stoniach, Heart-burn, Water-brash, Sick Headache, Costiveness, palpitation of the Heart, Liver Complaint, coming up of the food, low spirits, general debility, etc., yet since the introduction of Green's August Flower we believe there.is no case of Dys- pepsia that cannot be immediately relieved. 50,000 dozen sold last year without one case of failure reported. Epwin Boorn in Reevumatism.—Edwin Booth suffers terribly sometimes from rheu- matism, and if he were not one of the most amiable of mortals, would, doubtless, in- dulge in vigorous Anglo-Saxon expletives. He takes refuge, however, in a well-smoked corn-cob pipe when the attack is on him, using; no other medical treatment than a reparation originally tested by his rother-in-law, J. H. Magonigle. This affords him almost instant~relief and in place of indulging in profanity wher: the rheumatism mps him, he calls for (Hiles’ Liniment lodide Ammonia, which he buys by the gallon.
