A. MUTUAL FRIEND Queen's County, - Feb- lithw-St. Valentines Day. iiQ-Q-i READ IT AGAIN Sir,—-With its crisp and scholar-l iy Editorials, Notes by the Way,’ news items, Public Forum, absence n! lliortsnse Sales. etc, the Daily, Guardian lightens our burdens. I It is noteworthy, however, that many “Public Forum," letters seem to eminate from one-eyed mortar. itles, yet occasionally some broad-f minded, and fearless critic wields his pen, with credit to himself and‘ profit to the reader. In last Saturday's issue appearsl a letter from King's County, antit-l led “The Struggle" which after‘ once tasting of its unusual flavor I was constrained to read again, and have found in it much food for‘ thought. l am not attempting to discussl the letter referred to, lest thntl would lead to the fatal error of tbel many columns, or unmask the fact‘ that the letter itself would be its‘ own better eulogy, but am merely calling attention to it. so that those who have missed it, may look it upl and read it. One point, however, may be not- ed. The writer calls attention to the lack of enforcement of the laws against smuggling, but might it be possible that this is a bless- ing in disguise. and that the change to mstursr liquor, after the opening of navigation, saves many lives from ruin, due to long con- tinued indulgence in what he so ironically terms "that healthful beverage!" For it is well known that the moon-shlner's vacation is during the rum-running season. The political views of the learn- ed writer, l shall not venture fol guess. but am convinced that he is an elector of more than average in- telllgence, who has evidently out- grown the age of, “my party; m)’ party right or wrong." l am, Sir, etc. REVIEW. .___..{<oe>--- CONDITIONS IN MONTREAL lSir,—I see that there is unem- ployment and hardship in Mont- real, 0n the part of many persons,‘ and that appeal for health to those, who are well off are made.
