Resolutions supportng the con- struction of a causeway and the endorsing of Standard Time were unanimously passed at a public meeting of the people of St. Peter's Bay and vicinity on Friday even- ing. Mr. DJ. Mullln presided. The resolution favoring the causeway was moved by Mr. C.C. Pratt and seconded by Mr. Kenneth Maccallum. The resolution dealing with Standard Time was moved by Mr. Kenneth Maccallum and seconded by Mr. Donald Anderson. The text of the resolutions is as follows: CAUSEWAY Resolved that this meeting of the residents of St. Peter's Bay and surrounding districts fully support the movement on foot at present to bring about the construction of the and the Mainland of Canada. We feel that this great transport- ation project has been too long de- layed, and we strongly urge mem. bers of both Provincial and Feder- al Governments to act unitedly in order to achieve results now, and not tolerate further procrastinat- fun. And be it further resolved: That copies of these resolutions be for- warded to our Provincial Premier. and to the press for publication. THE TIME ACT Whereas there exists on the leg- islative books of this Province, an -Act to provide for the Uniformity of Time on Prince Edward Island. And whereas our legislature at its 1953 session authorized standard time: And whereas it is a fact .that all our people favor uniform time; Causeway. between our Province And whereas the great majority St. Peters Meeting Favours Causeway & Standard Time of them favor standard time be- cause it is more suitable to the workers in our two main industries farming: and fishing; and because our schools, if operating under daylight saving time. would be re- quired to open for classwork at an hour inconvenient for mothers. pup ils, and teachers; And whereas tourists who come largely from Eastern United States and central Canada would not re quire to change the time on their watches, if standard time is re- tained here. Therefore resolved: That this meeting representing the St. Peters Bay Area. strongly endorse the Standard Time System feeling that this is more suited to condit- ions here existing. and yet will per- mit those who so desire to open and close their places of business to suit their own convenience. Foreign” Ministers Christian PI- neau and Heinrich von Brentano agreed on a five-point directive to experts from the two countries who will meet in Paris March 17 to work out remaining points. The essence of the agreement was that West Germany agreed to couple the "canalization" of the Mosclle river, an old objective of the French steel industry, with I Saar settlement. A canal system on the Moselle would connect France with the Rhine and provide an outlet to the north sea. However. the canal is opposed by Germany's Ruhr in- dustry and Brentano did not delin- itely commit Germany to the pro- ect.
