man press has suddenly become ramp-
antly angry because of the seizure of
German steamers trading to Delagoa
Bay and alleged to be carrying con-
traband goods intended for the use of
the Boer armies.
Germany has had a large trade with
East. and South Africa,which has been
in largely carried on by a line of mail
steamcrs plying from German ports to
Lorenzo Marques, on Delagos Bay.
It is well known that before the war
broke out these steamers carried'
many cargoes, including cannon, rides
and ammunition for the Transvaal
Government. In time of peace this
trade could not be stopped. The
British Government has received in-
formation that the German liners
have been carrying on the same trade
in contraband goods since the war
has been going on . The comman-
ders of British cruisers; no doubt act-
ing und6r instructions from the home
authorities, have seized two stcamers.

It is gratifying to learn that Capt.
