That drinking ice water in copious draughts when a person is overheated is injurious not to say dangerous, is also undeniable But that the free drinking of water in some form in hot weather must be avoided, is deniable, and is one of the greatest popular errors extant. When a person is perspir- ing freely from every pore, a vast amount of water is drawn from the body, which must be re-supplied, or great injury is be- ing done the physical health, and the foun- dation of some of the worst forms of kid ney disease is being slowly but surely laid. So iong as the water drank is freely carried through the system, and converted in its massage =6to)6the © scnaturally acid reaction of the urine and per- epiration, no danger can occur by deposits of urea or lime in the kidneys and bladder, because they remain perfectly in solution, and are carried out of the body instead of remaining in it. Do not drink ice cold water, but pure cool water. If you are attacked with cholera-morbus, summer complaint, diarrhoea or dysentery, do not resort to alcoholic stimulating drinks, but adopt the practice of taking daily, just before retiring. during July and August, ene teaspoonful of Jolnson’s Anodyne Liniment in a little sweetened water, which will prevent all such attacks and ill effects from ice water. The little son of a local butcher, a baby just two years old, can read with perfect eave anything written or printed in German or Latin cnaracters. A few weeks ago three Brunswick doctore had the baby “introduced to them, at the house of one of the learned gentlemen. The first thing the little one did when brought into the consulting room was to stand on its toes at the table, reading out from the books that were _ ly- ing about. All that could be ascertained as to the why and wherefore of the un- canny accomplishment is that wher the baby was 18 months old, and his grand- mother took him out, he always immed- iately caught sight of the inscriptions over shops, and asked about them as only a smal! child can ask, till! he had fath- omed the meaning of the letters. It was the same at home; books and newspapers had greater fascination than lollipops and toys, and whatever the parents playfully told him he remembered, with the result that at the age of 2 years he reads with perfect ease.
