April 16, 1895. --..-- ENQUIRY. Srr,—Reading of the great depression, financially, existing among some of the countries of the world at the present time, I cousider our own little Island is escap- ing well, and were it not for the twe or three scapegoats, that are parading the country this last while back, collecting for various purposes, pauperism would be almost unknown. Vernon River seems to be the starting point for some of the above named persons. I, for one, would like to enquire whether or no this once- upon-a- tine opulent family, for whom this person is collecting, isin actual need of such. The most right thinking men of the sev- eral districts through which he travelled, consider it would be better for this barn collector to stay at home, take off his coat, and earn his living by the sweat of his brow, as it was designed for him to do. The particular object of the memorial is to express the sense entertained of Prof. Robertson Smith’s intellectual eminence-as a Semitic scholar, and the impulse whieh he gxve to Semitic studies, particularly in Scotland. One of the notable circumstances connect- ed with this movement is the fact that it is endorsed by Free Church scholars and professors, and yet only a few years ago the Free Church of Scotland was vigor- ously at work driving the late professor beyond its pale, because of the views which he maintained on +ome important questions. Miller’s Emulsion of Cod Liver Oil cures consump- tion and every disease of the lungs and respiratory organs. Why? Because it suppiles new blood to the exhausted sys- tem, thus giving a new lease of life. Mill- er’s Emuls sion is made from the Oil of the Norwegian Cod Liver, and in conjanction with hypophosphites of lime and soda forms the greatest fertilizer of the age.
