A highly instructive, interesting and entertaining lecture by J. H. Bell, K. C., of Summerside, was lis- tened to lust evening in the school room of Zion Church. Mr. llell had for his subject, Egypt, the Land of Pharoah. He spoke witliout manu- script or notes, and in the'arrny of facts which he presented proved not only his close observation of the land and its people, hut also a remarkably retentive memory. Mr. Bell visited Egypt some two years ago und gave a very graphic and often amusing ac- count of thc sights nnd scenes he wit- nessed and the historic spots he visi- ted. These included the Pyramid of Cheops, the Sphynx, the rilins of Thebes, the Bay oi Aboukir, where Nelson won the great victory of the Nile, in describing each of which the lecturer gave some really eloquent descriptive passages. The funniest scene of all described by Mr. Bell was, one in which hc, hy means of ventrii- oquism, made the_diimh use spenk with human voice as in the days of Dalaam, and tell not only its own name but the name of his owner and how many wives and children the latter had, also ho\v his master had misused the poor animal. It was most enjoyable. Rev. Mr. Struthie presided nnd presented nt the close a hearty vote of thanks to the lectur- er. 'l‘lie show- nt the People's Theatre lnst night comprised three reels of photoplays nnd two special acts. It was about the biggest nmoiint for the money ever offered even then, nnd the combination of a touching society play, a funny love story nnd an In- dian subject filled the bill sumptous- ly ns for ns the silent drama wus concerned. Tlic personal entertainer of the evening was G. E. Taylor, billed as magician and vantrlloquist. His advance billing did but small justice to his actual work for he is an en- tertainer of rare ability, possessing a personality which holds his audiences firmly during the whole of his p_er- formances. His opening last evening was twenty minutes of real Clever fun with the comedian number, Tom- my, Betty aod Mary. It was ri mar- velous exhibition _of clever ventrii- oquism, voice cntcliing voice as from dihercnt speakers nnd conversation ns wen its nm keeiiini: up ii rattling fire. He closed this with calling and getting answers from ii supposed per- son on the roof. His second appear- nnce afforded nnothcr spnce of most clever sleight of hnnd wor_k-It beinil impossible to describe in its wonder- ful quickness-its innrveloiis dexter- ity mid its great entertaining pow- ¢,-,_ (‘_ E, 'raylor is worth i=Z0\l‘i-I Ulf to scc and is thc clcverest performer in his line of work who hns Yel- VW* ted this city.
