The interest displayed in and the attendance at those meetings is a good indication of general agricultural interest and indicates i wide awake progressive com- munlty. If the foundation is full of holes --the whole structure will be wobbly. ., Membership Cards A number of members have asked about their membership, cards for 1952-these are going out every day and are being mail- ed directly to each member. There is still over one thousand cards to be mailed so it will be a few weeks before this job is com- plete. Resolutions The resolutions passed at the County meetings deal with ques- tions which members feel require attention. In the livestock business the Federation has been instruct- ed to deal with the questions of rail grading for cattle and with an assembling and central selling system for cattle. A committee has also been ap- pointed to study and report to the annual meeting on the contentious killing plant matter. Farm Radio Forum was endorsed and district secretaries urged to support and encourage this branch of education. The directors were told to keep pushing the electrification issue and in this respect it should be mentioned that the amount of push will depend on the response to the petition circulated to each district Accident: Insurance There is no question as to the interest in the group accident in- surance plan, at least on the part of those at the County meetings and on the part of most districts already reporting to the. office. The plan is admitted to be good, all that is now required is to convince a sufficient number of members of its worth. The two main purposes of the Accident Insurance plan are: (lst) To provide the member with ben- efits not available to those who do not support their organiza- tion. (2nd) To encourage more farmers to become members. Farm Forum Next week Floyd Griesbach, Na- tional Secretary of Farm Forum will visit us and spend a busy week attending meetings through- out the Province. The mcst effective type of ing is the one held in a rural home with visitors from sur- rounding districts invited ln. Un- fortunately, the number of such meetings that can be held in one week is limited. we can think of meat- TIIE SMART CHRISTMAS SHOPPER BUYS VISIT US SOON AND MAKE YOUR SELECTION c a hundred suitable locations. Farm Forum has made a good start this year with a substantial ' increase over last year. There is still room for amny more districts in the Farm Forum family. Secretary of Agriculture In the United States the Min- ister of Agriculture is known as the secretary of that Department and it is interesting to note that the man picked for the job is the executive director of the National Council of Farmer's Co-operatives. The appointment of Ezra Taft Eenslon is a recognition of the importance of co-operation iii Am- erican agriculture. ” The new secretary will certainly. be experienced in dealing with farmers and farm business prob- lems. . rotate Prices and Lice ice M. R. Mcciuigan in the Mo- Nsught-Raynor case serves to es- tablish the fact that unlicensed potato dealers who enter into con- tracts with growers are in a poor position to legally enforce the agreement. While it was found that the dealers license had been illegally cancelled, the reason being that the Board orders which had been infringed. were found by the Supreme Court to have been in- valid. It should be clearly un- derstood that the Potato, Board still possesses the power to can- cel licenses when and if its or- ders have not been complied with. Attention is called to the fact that 31.80 a. bushel is the legal price at shipping points for Moun- tain and Sebago seed and under the last Board Order the grower should receive 51.90 per 75 pound bag for table stock. These are the prices which growers should get and should in- sist on. COMMON BIRD The so-called English or house sparrow was introduced to North America about 1850. ALLAN MACDONALD In the passing of Mrs. Allan MacDonald at her home in Glen William, P. E. I. on Nov. 10th, the community lost its oldest citizen, the only one of her generation in Southern Kings County. Mrs. MacDonald, the former Flora. Rlll. was born at Plat River March 1858. She was the only sur- viving member of a large family whose parents were John Ross and Katherine Martin Ross. In the year 1983 she married Allan Mac- Donald of Glen William, who later became an elder in the Caledonia Preayterlan Church, and to-gether they took an active part in the church and community life of their day. They brought up a fam- ily of three sons and three daughters, and trained them to be useful citizens in their varied walks of life. Mira. Maonomsid was of an out- standing cheerful dispoeition, al- ways, even in times of sorrow and difficulty, seeing the sunny side of life. Her home was a place where friccnda and relatives young and old, loved to come, for she was a charming hostess and always extended a joyous welcome to her many friends. She continued act- ive and industrious until the last few years, and was not confined to bed until a few weeks before she passed away. Her mind was bright and to the end of life she would daily repeat from memory passag- es of scripture, and sing favorite hymns and paraphrases. During her last illness she was tenderly cared for by her son Alex R. and daughter Mary of North Sydney, N. 8. Her husband and three of her children Katherine (Mrs. Charles B. Porter of Med- lcine I-lat, Alta): Christine (Mrs. E. R. Bishop of Florida) and John of Vancouver, B. C. predeceased her. surviving members are Alex 11., at home; Mary (Mrs. Rev. M. D. MacLcod) North Sydney, N. S.: and Dr. W. A. MacDonald of Ft. MacMurray, Alta. Also 13 grand children, Mrs H. P. Anderson, Cal- gary, Alta. who visited her grand- mother last summer; Warren Por- ter, Cianeshoim, Alta.: Mrs. Don King and Robert Porter of Med- icine Hat, Alta; Jack Porter of Ed- montori; Billy. S. Hales oi- ficiating, asisied by ReV- D. W- MacPherson of Murray Harbor and Rev. A. C. Fraser of valley- field.
