WALIER _- Y _ - i __ _ LESSON VIII. FEBRUARY 19. ELIJAI-l‘S FLIGHT AND RETURN. 1 Kings 19: 1-I6. GOLDEN TEXT "They that wait upon_ the Lord shall renew their strength."-Isinh 40: 31. _ POINTED SUGGESTIONS. By Rev. D. W. Snider. The truth-telling Bible! .Last week's lesson prepared for us something dif- ferent about Eliiah than what ap- pears this week. Why is not the char- iot of fire made ready for the pro- phet upon Carmel? That would leave the story in the shape that the mere hero or saint worshipper would wish to have it. The feelings of admiration and awe are deeply stirred by the sublime spectacle of Carmel, but those of sympathy and fellowship and inter- cession crowd the heart at the revel- ation of the discouragement and de. _iection and stark pessimism which possesses Elijah in his flight and hid- ing in the rocky skirts of Horeb. But the story is true to nature and we are the gainers. Moses, David, Elijah, Peter, Paul-- what names. The history oi the world produces none greater but when all the facts are in and all the facts are told it is learned that they became great and were perfected through sui- fering and discipline and -the lift of grace. There were the subject oftemp- tation, they yirlded to sin, they suf- fered reactions as other men. But they rose upon their dead selves to higher things. The stories of these heroes of the faith, however, throw that prophetic statement concerning the Christ into remarkable relief upon which the re- cord of the life of Jesus casts aguini- que and fadeless lustre, namely, “He shall not fail nor be discouraged till he have set judgement in the earth." The big question after all to which the scriptures lead us is not "What think ye of Elijah?" but “What think ye of Christ?" Without a doubt God was with Eli- jah upon Carmel. But He is not only with His faithful ones upon the crest of the high wave of their experience but I-le aiso,. in the very tenderness of A compassion and mercy which never fails, forsakes them not when that experience is overshadowed be- cause 'of the deep trough of despond in which through overmastering temptation, they are flung. Note the tenderness of God in this lesson! The Strong son of God has been touched with our iniirmities. He understands physical and mental exhaustion. He knows the rebounding force af action and its danger. Jesus conquered at such times hy retire- ment and prayer. But Elijah's feet had well-night slipped. He was saved by the firm yet gentle ministries of God-the ministry of ‘bodily refresh- ment, the ministry of startling inter- rogation, the ministry of illustrative counsel, the ministry of correcting knowledge, the ministry of reassuring hope, the ministry of appointment to new and definite service. That God works in the silences is a profitable lesson-by the sound of the gentle stillness. If some loud-mouthed agitators for some things that are good could get inside of that fact the good that is sought would- come more surely into evidence. To learn that results are :with God is important. The story of many be- sides Elijah confirms the fact that no one is quite so essential to the suc- cess of things as he may suppose. Why should Elijah think he should be regarded as better than his fathers? What necessary concern was it of his that he alone served God? That was both his certain duty and high pnivil- ege. i Not petulance, not inaction, not re- crimination is the cure for discou- ragement, but purpose, something to do. No one accomplishes anything while in the cave of doubt or the cell of gloom. ` Elijah was told to anoint his suc- cessors. Men may pass but the work lives. Happy are those who content to stand in their lot, faithfully. God looks after the jointing of lots. We have known it to cure hundreds of thousands in that time, of some of the most desperate cases of disease known to medical science. We have received thousands of un- solicited testlmonlals, which we will gladly let you look over should you desire. Think of it, a third of a century's experience with one preparation. a ihlrd of a ceniury's intimate know- ledge of what extraordinary cures it has made-almost a lifetime! .Do you wonder then with that per- fect knowledge of Psychlne, that we are anxious to bring it to the notice oi everyone in Canada suffering from disease? Do you wonder that we want those to know who are using wrong methods of cure, who are not getting well, and who we know will be benefited by Psychine. Do you wonder that we can buy hundreds of thousands oi’ 50-cent bot- tles of Psychine from the drugglsts of Canaria to give to those who wish to try it? >K*1i€ Psychlne builds vitality. It strengthens and increases the white corpuscles of the blood-the phagocytes, the policemen or scaven- gers of the blood. ' 'These white corpuscles of the blood, when strong enough, destroy every disease germ that gets into the body, keeps the body healthy. 81'€ Olll' l'€8SOl'1S1 If these white corpuscles are not ln sumcient numbers or are not sutlicicns ly strong, then these disease germs destroy them and disease holds the body. Thats the cause of nearly every disease that adlicts the human race. For years. centuries, in faci,__lt has been recognized that herbs are the most _effective treatment for disease. It is only within recent times that we have been able to :ell just why they were so effective. Because certain of them increased and strengthened the white corpuscles or phugocytes. These herbs are employed in ‘com- pounding Psychine. We go all over this world to obtain these herbs. Arabia, South America, China and Japan all contribute. And the result is a preparation that will restore health and build vitality as no other preparation will. That has proven itself in nearly the third of a centur,v's use as no other preparation has proven itself. That is a most effective treatment for: LAG l Hronizlipllllgs Hemorrhaizes Bore 'Throat Bronchial Coughs Weak Lungs Weak Voice Spring \\'c_akness Decl Anseuila Early inc Female Weakness C:.ua.i-rhal Affectlons Indigsstlon_ Cnuarrh of Stomach f Poor Appetite Night Swv.-nts Chills and Fcvers Obstlnstie Coughs Slccplessncss and Lnrymzilis an Nervous Troubles Dyspelifin After-oh'ects of Pleurlsy, neumonla and Lis Grlppe.
