guarantee of the delivery of either
part-el or letters can be given and that
the Post Office accepts no resoiisiliil-
ity. In any case, coiisiclerable delay
may take place and failure to re-
ceive an acknowledgement should not
necessarily be taken as an indication
that letters and parcels sent have not
been delivered.
9. So far ag is known. prisoners of
wzir in Germany are allowed to write
letters or postcards from iinic to time;
but they may not nlwnys have facili-
ties t`or doing so and thc fact that no

HORSE NOTES.
What an undoubtedly one of the
best, if not the best ('lydcsdale mares
ever iiiiported into Cape Breton, was
brought. here last week by Mr. Rod.
McLeod. of Grove's Point, says thc
North Sydney Herald. 'I‘lie animal,
which was purchased in P. E. Island,
was bred by Robert Currie, of Glen
llcad, Auldgirtli Keir, I)umi°reshirc,
Scotland. Her name is Neil of Glen
lieud, No. 1016, and is sired by Lord
Lonsdale, first dam Kate ot' Glen
Iiead by Woodside Cliief; second dnni
lit-ss of Glen Head, by the Tyrinn,
and third dam .less of Glen llcad. by
Giiribnld. She is nine years old. and
carried oil the blue ribbon at the P.
E. island exhibition, and in fact won
iirst honors wherever shown. She
weighs 1660 pounds, and is a valuable
acquisition to the breeding stock of
Cape Breton.
