TORONTO TORONTO (OP) — The stock market Friday wandered aim- lessly through one of its dnllest Iessi-on: in weeks to close mixed. to lower. ~ Base metals rallied near the * end of trading to post an ‘index- gain of one-half point and west- ern -oils had a similar rise but gold: closed lower on index. For most of the session trad- ing lacked interest. Senior base metals were lower for most of the session but near the close a few stocks such as‘ International Nickel, Hudson Bay and Falconlbridge lost earlier de- clines and replaced them with minor ga-ins. , Uranium-s and golds we're un- settled with gains balancing losses. Coppers finally moved ahead after days of mixed ac- tion but the ginas were small. Opemlsk-a topped the list of win- ners with a 20-cent rise to $6.05. Western oils had a few 15-30 dent winner-s but these were stocks with only a few sales. The general trend was to the up- s-ide but, like most of the other sections, the rise was irregular.
