Anout eight o'clock on Saturday evening last a fire caught in a shed adjoining the court house at Amherst. From the shed the flames spread to the court house, and in a short time there was nothing left of it but the walls. It is thought that many valuable documents were destroyed. The origin of the fire is unknown. We last week remonstrated with the editor of the Pioneer for neglecting to credit Tae EXamiNex with a number of paragraphs which appeared in his paper. Our remonstrance has had some little effect. The Pioneer to hand this morning gives credit to THe EXAMINER for several, but not all, of the paragraphs clipped therefrom. The appuintment of J. B. Rollend, of Muutreal, to the vacancy in the Senate created by the death of Senator Seneca), is offically contirmed. Military Precautions. Lonpon, Oct. 24. from St. Petersburg indicate that Russia is taking the most elaborate military precautions. An Ukase will be shortly issued embodying regulations for the protection of all stragetic railways in Southern Russia. It removes all employees on these roads who are not of the orthodox Greek faith and mem- bers of the Established Church of the Empire. The ebject isto secure absolute loyalty to Russia on the part of those en- gaged on these important lines of com- munication along the frontier. Advices Lord Hartington’s Speech. Lonpon, Oct. 24. Lord Hartington delivered a speech at Nottingham this evening. He described the Liberal federation as nothing but a one man association, without a national character. He reiterated that the question of disestablishment of the church in Scot- land ought to be settled by popular will but not so the Welsh disestablishment which could not be separated from English disestablishment, as Gladstone himself formerly argued when the question was raised. Arranging a Meeting. Bucuargst, Oct, 24. M. Stambuloff is coming to Bucharest on a mission from Prince Ferdinand to arrange a meeting between Ferdinand and the Kings of Roumainia and Servia. The latter favor such an interview as tending to pro- mote an enteinte cordiale aiming at the sup- pression of intrigues, which are a common danger to the three states. ener Precautions Against Cholera. Orrawa, Oct. 24. Dr. LaChapelle, President of the Pro- vincial Board of Health,7states that every precaution is being taken to prevent the in- troduction of cholera. It is now certain that the Czar will visit Berlin, and that the Kaiser has returned to be in readiness to welcome him. Convin- cing proof comes in the form of intelligence from Copenhagen that the Czar has con- sented tothe meeting, which is brought about wholly through German solicitation.
