It is understood that the recent imperial subsidy of the Pacific steamers was granted on condition that the Canadian Government take mea- sures to improve the trans-utlantic service. It is rumored in London that the Canadian Pacitic contemplates establishing a mail service to Australia, provided the Imperial authorities give them the contract.
