Canadian exports were toot in endeavor to ir differing opinions ue to British export nadvs offer. experts have differed in every conference since the war, it is doubtful if experts will reach absolutely common ground in ehe present instance. But according to one explanation the' difference be- tween the Canadian and British experts arises largely from the manner in which the figures have been compiled. The Canadian figures were based on totals of sotuni invoioos. 'rho British were based not on itemized exports but on groups of exports. The statistic- al periods taken were also not the same. Returns issued by the Dominion Bureau of statistics today reveal the gi-ip which' Russia wheat had on the British market in 1931, the year of the great Russian dump. During that calendar year, Great Britain bought 54,010,298 bushels cf wheat from Russia. She bought 55,982,000 bushels from Canada.- less than two million more than she bought from Russia. (By Thomas Green, Canadian Press . Staff Writer) OfI'I‘AWA, Aug. 9--Prime Mi_nis- ter H.. B. Bennett and United King- dom delegates were in conversation late today on Ca.nada‘s trade offer to Great Britain and Rt. Hon. Stanley Baldwin’s reply yesterday. ‘ The main point under discussion was the amount of trade which would be diverted to the British through Canada's offer. Canada maintains the amount would be very substantial and would amount to a minimum of $55,000,000. With this point at issue, Canadian and British experts will be put together, it is learned, to discuss the whole matter. Cabinet Council is meeting late today; and at the moment there is some conjecture whether Prem- ier Bennetts reply will be made to Great Britain tonight. The fact that the experts of both countries will go over the two sets of figures computed by them respectively sug- gests that the reply may not be made until tomorrow.
