Most fans seemed to have the idea that Andy's Aces were the bluebloods of the Summerside Ladies' Softball League this year. Especially so after they had started out so well against. the Airforce Daks. But Mark Delaney and Laysh Schm- man led their red-clad gorgeous gals into the fray against the Clark-Peters smoothies, and showed- littie respect for the opinion oi sports writers and fans by pasting the Aces with a 9-6 defeat. . . . We had lauded the Gibson-Rot ers keystone combination to the skies, and still think well of them. But. Wanda Chappell and Mari. Mlmee, second base and short stop respectively of George's Gals out- played them in the first clash be- tween the two teams. There should be very keen rivalry between these pairs as the season advances. 0 O D It looks as if Andy's Aces may have to dig up some pitching me- ierial. Right now they seem to have only one ilinger, Marie Peters, and Marie is showing definite signs of being overworked on the mound. She started with a masterful per- iormance, but has been going down hill ever since. The Gals seem to be depending too much on one pitcher also. This policy of using only one hurier is a poor one, we think. For one thing, you need a relief pitcher to come to the rescue at times, for there is nothing more demoralizing to a pitcher's confidence than to stick out there and take a. thorough pasting without relief. . u . Present standing of the summer- side Ladies' Softball League: Andryls Aces, won 2. lost. 1: George's Gals. won 2, lost 1; Better Halves. won 1, lost 2; Daks, won 1, lost 2. Mark Delaney says his gorgeous gals are the team to beat this year. Could be, Mark, but. their names will have to be changed to "Orphans" if the umpires keep throwing their coaches out of the game. 8chur- man and Delaney. hustling coaches both, are the "Durocher" type. They sometimes forget to be polite to umpires. . Ross Armstrong continues to be the No. 1 softball pitcher in Prince Oil Production In Alberiillp -EOMONIDN.
