The Basketball Panthers are competing in a new league and they are stocked with seven rookies. The "Lady Panthers" have moved from Womens Intere mediate Intercollegiate‘ Basketball to senior Inter— Collegiate Basketball. This move will provide U.P.E.I. with tough com— petition, some of the best in the country. Over the past four years the U.N.B. "Red Bloomers" have dominated dominated the A.W.I.A.A. league and have been first or second across Canada. This caliber of competition should be a good test for the Lady Panthers. The "Lady Panthers" line- up is also dominated by the "new". Returning from last years squad are center Rose King, last years M.V.P., guard Nancy Berrigan and forward Susan McAdam. Joining the returnees are Seven Island rookies. At forward positions are Sandra Dunsford and Barb Stevenson . bother formerly of Colonel Gray. They should provide the Panthers with height and rebounding strength. For added scoring punch, U.P.E.I. has rookies Shirley Birch, Mary Bradley and Joan Trainor. These girls all had out- ‘standing basketball success at their respec— tive high schools. Athena, Charlottetown Rural and Colonel Gray. Handling the quarter— backing duties will be two more outstanding Colonel Gray graduates Frances MacKinnon and Janet Trainor. Their speed and outside shoot- men’s team provide everyone with a few surprises. The "Lady Panthers" will_, get their chance to see how the new and old blend this weekend as they host Nova Scotia Teachers College in a pair of ex- hibition games. On satur- day they meet Teachers' College at 2:00 pm while on Sunday they play at twelve noon. Both games are at Alumni Gymnasium.
