the P. E. Island Electric Company, repre-
sented in this city by Mr. James Waddell
This action of the five Councillors,Messrs.
Whcar, Macdonald, Brown, B305, *Hd
Taylor was so eixtraordiuary, especially
when taken in connection with the delay
in calling for tenders, and the longer de-
lgy in getting the specifications ready,
that it gave to many P35095
the impression that the Coun-
__ cillors named [were from some,
reason disposed to unduly favor Mr.
Waddell’s company at the expense of the
City. l
Everything therefore that will thr0W
_light upon the relations between anY Of
the Councillors named and either of the
ival lighting companies becomes a matter
of public interest. As already State<l,1'\1m01`
has been busy with these matters, and
he public are entitled to such information
as can be obtained. For instance, We
have it on the authority of one of the Dir-
ectors of the Full Electric Company, that
Coun. Balls told him that Mr. Waddell,
of the P. E. I. Electric Company had sent
him his bill for lighting his (Mr. Bn.ll`s)
shop at greatly reduced dgures, without
being asked to do so.
Another-Councillor who voted to continue
the contract with the P. E. Island Elect-
ric Company, had notified the Full
‘Company on lst June that he would not
require their light after' that day, and his
premises were lighted on th; 'following
evening by the P. E. Island Eli-attic Com-
pany. One of the Directors of the Full
Company is_our authority for the state-
ment that the Councillor referred to in
this paragraph informed this director that
he had made a very low contract
with the P. E. Island Electric Company
for a term of five years, with a privilege
i oflextension to tenlyears.
The position of Councillor A. Macdon-
ald in regard to the matter will be made
quite apparent by the two letters from
him to the Full Electric Company. copies
of which are subjoined:
