The work, under the able superintendence of Mr. Fyfield, is progressing rapidly. W.H. Fraser, Esq., the eon*ractor, is bent upon pushing the work forward. He has some forty-five hands em- ployed. -_- oS. Excursion.—The Truro excursionists left for home via Pictou at six o'clock iast evening. The excursionists were, on the whole, a rough lot. Many of them indulged pather freely in ** Hop Beer” during their a‘ay, and made themeelveg obnoxious to citizens in other ways. Their conduct was in marked contrast to that of the Pictou, New Glasgow, and Stellarton people who visited us a short time before, oanaeaamn Last Sap Ritres.—The remains of the late Lemuel T. Owen will be conveyed from the Steam Navigation Company's wharf on the ar- rival of the steamer from Pictou on Thursday evening, and conveyed, via Prince street ferry, by road, to Cardigan. The funeral will take place at 12 o'clock, noon, on Friday. Friends and acquaintances are invited to attend. A large proportion of our local militia men attended the funeral of the late Major Cropley, whose remains were interred with military honors. The faneral of the late William McCarron took place this forenoon. There was a good attendance, including the comrades of the deceased in Tur Examtner office. AGITATED. ’ CHicaco Curcago, Il., July 17, Inspector Bonfield this morning took five special officers, surrounded a house in the vicinity of Ashiand Street, and arrested the owner and captured twelve dynamite bombs, revulvers and knives. He subse- quently arrested two other men in the neighborhood. About twenty determined murderers were in the conspiracy. At a certain hour after midnight to-night they were to be at the homes of Judges Gunnell, Gary, himself (Bonfield), Frank Walker, General Stiles aud ethers, prominent in the prosecution of the Anarchists. Dynamite was to be placed beneath the houses and the powerful explosives were to be touched off simultaneously. The Board of Trade was to be blown to the sky and at the same time a wholesale reign of terror was to be inaugurated. The arrested men are Bohemians. The ringleader, Hronek, is a cabinet maker. The other men are Frank Chapek and Frank Hebowa, tailors. These three men were at the Haymarket massacre. Hronek secured a number of bombs and dynamite from a friend of the cause that fatal even- ing. Chief Hubbard say there will be more arrests made to-night. —— Declaration Bay in ‘Cumberland. Amuerst, N.S., July 17. A. R. Dickey was duly declared elected by a majority of 764 votes; the total vote standing, Dickey, 2,391; Casey, 1,727; Dickey’s vote exceeding that of Sir Charles Tupper in November last by 23. This is considered a splendid showing, and proves that Cumberland is still solid for the Lib- eral-Conservatives. Messrs. Dickey and Casey addressed a large meeting in Music Hall after the adjournment of the Return- ing Officer’s court. The best of feeling prevailed. Mr. Dickey read a telegram from his father in London, ‘as follows :— ‘* All here congratulate you. Chignecto all right.” Meaning that the success of the Chignec- to Marine Railway is assured. This was, of course, greeted with loud applause. Sovereign Great Priory. Toronto, July 17. The annual session of the Sovereign Great Priory was held here to-day. Su- preme Grand Master Col. McLeod,: in his address, stated in the matter of. edict pro- mulgated by the Sovereign Great Priory of Canada against Scottish _ encampments located in New Bruuswick, that. he recom- mended its removal] as the means of an amicable settlement of the difficulty. M. commences here to- morrow. An unusually large number of delegates have arrived. Men Drowned. Winnirec, July 17. M. J. Wright, Government Analyst, was drowned yesterday afternoun in the Red River. He was sailing in a canoe when a gust of wind upset it. PeTreRBORO, Ont., duly 17. Word reached town to-day that John Crowley, of Harvey, was drowned in Pigeon Lake. He and J. Connors, of Otunabee, were returning from Bobcaygeon when the boat was struck by a squall and Crowley was thrown out and drowned. Health of Hon. Edward Blake. Toronto, July 17. The latest about Hon. Edward Blake is that he will return to Canada in poorer health than when he left. He was bene- fitted by his sojourn in Italy; but on reach- ing England his old trouble became as bad as ever, and since then there has been no improvement. 1. 0. G. T. Moncron, July 17. The Grand Lodge, I. O. G. T., opened its session here to-day. Across the main street from Robinson’s Hall to the Queen’s Hotel fluated on the breeze a string of flags in the centre of which was the Good Tem- plar flag of Dominion Lodge, and on either side hung the Stars and Stripes and English ensign, presenting a gay and fes- tive appearance.
