North Be- _ lloto In Potato Bag’ Brings liooly Mr. Tflmsn Arsenault of Sum- merside, worked as a iongshore- man loading ships with potatoes for Britain this spring snd he sttadied s note to one of the bags. This week be received the following reply: Sidcup, Kent, Juno 14. 1M7, Dear Mr. Arsensuit: ‘ I own s Ireengrocery business in Kent and was rather pleased to find in one of the sacks of potatoes imported from Canada, s note on s growers tag which might lead to s. personal contact. Firstly, may I answer your ques-i tlon regarding the -condition of the "spuds". There is only one answer, they were really first class and this is the general opinion of the actual eaters, not from the sellers point of view. ' You see on arrival in this coun- try the potatoes are unloaded at the docks, delivered to the whole- saler, who in turn, delivers them to the shopkeeper (that is like my- self) and he sells them to the general public and they tell me that your potatom are the best they have had for s, very long time, in fact if it had not been for the shortage, I could have sold them by the bag without weigh- ing them into 4 lb lots. Generally things are not too bad in the old country—we have no end of re- strictions wfth lots of "does and don't" and whilst we cannot live as we rlid before the war, we manage to rub along on our ra- tions. I shall be very pleased to hear from you, when, if you wish, I will write to you further on the conditions of life here both per- sonally and in general. Perhaps some newspapers would interest you. Awaiting your reply with interest. Yours Sincerely. R. E. Wynn. -—S.
