THE SECOND POINT. | Wuy was the election in the Second District of Queen's put off until after the recent session of the Legislature? This is &@ question that ought to be addressed to Premier Farquharson at every public meeting held throughout the campaign thatis nowon. Why leeve thef%people of West River, Rusiico, Milton, North River, etc., unrepresented in the Legisiature and hold an election to fil] the vacancy as soon as possible after the Legislature was pros rouged? Mr. Wise’s resignation ought— accordiag tothe law aad according to the promise of Premier Farquharson, as well as in justice to the electors of the second dietrict, to have been acted"upon in March last. If acted upon at that time the Second District of Queens would not have gone unrepresented in the Legislative Assembly, But then, Pineau would not have held the balance of power and the Farquharson Government would not now be in office! ~—>eo-s o-oo THE LIQUIR RBSERIOTIONS, Tug restrictions in the Liquor Regula- tion Act were evaded by the Farquharson Government by repealing them. But the Guardian has 20 word of condemnea-« tion against the Government for so doing. contributions for the year were $1420.51, The final draft of the station sheet was , presented. [¢* is noted that the Guardian, whilat condon- ? ing and apelogising for the many faults of the Liberale, ‘oes eo in a very bere-faded manoer, aod always imputes improper motives to its Conservative opponents. The Guardian is able to swallow Farqu- harson’s eoncessions, but appears to be too weak to swallow the emergency fool scandal now being ventilated at Ottawa. Ina day or two it may become stronger, snd the public may then expect to eee the Guardian blaming the Hon. Mr. Monk and the Conservatives for exposing the scand- ulous fraud in the House of Commons, aod thereby doing injury tothe party of purity. METHODIST CONFEREN CE At Monday’s cession of the conference at Moncton the report of the committee on Sabbath observance was submitted and adopted without discussion. It urges the hetter observance of the aay’ suggests tbat eech minister be requested to preach some time during the conferential year at least one sermon on the subject of Sabbath observance. The secretary-treasurer of the St. James’ Church relief fund reported thar the confereuce had coatributed $1900 to the fund. The re- port wes referred back to com aittee for amendment. The amendment was almo; catried unanimously, The clause enuorsing the action of the Dominion Temperance Alliance was struck out, unanimously. Sin,—In travelling through the country ene casnet help noticing any improve- ments that may be made from time to time, either sbout the farme, the build- ings, the road fences, or the road itself. Very noticeable in the Jatier is the straigbtenirg of a piece of road near Lake Verd, Lot 48. This bas not only been o very bad picce of road, but an eye-sore for years. Owing, bowever, tothe p-rsistent efforta and the keep-to<itiveress of Charles Myers, Eeq , Lake Verd, the powers that be were convinced of the necessity of straightening this curve, and induced to bave the work sold at public auction last fall, the road to be completed by Jaly, 1800. The bid fell to Mr. Myere’s eon James, for $10900. We should judge the new road to be fifteen chains long. It had to be bruehed from one to three feet deep, sixteen feet wide, and covered with clay one foot deep. Owing to a large flow of water there had to bea bridge putia. This could oct be bails for much lesa than $25.00. Altuough Mr, Myers only re ceived this paltry amount for euch a gigantic piece of work ne has completed it in a manoer highly creditable to himself. It will be a lasting mouument to his ability and settled de-~ termination to dothe rigbt, po matter at what cost. Men who have seen the work and are competent to judge say that taking the amount of time, labour aud material into consideration the road could not be | put in its present shape for leas than $150 or $200. Wehope the Government will pay Mr. Myers sn honest price for an honest piece of work. Acking Mr, Myers’ pardon for thus giving publicity to his name and good deeds unsclicited, and thanking you, Mr, Editor, for your valus~ able epaee, I am, Ong Wao Has Travected Over rue New Roap.
