-PROHIBITION CA8E.- Before
Judge McQuarrie at Alberton on
Tuesday the 20th inet. Bella Jones
of Brocwn, Lot 4, was on information
laid by George Barbour, prosecutor,
cvonvicted on a first offence against
-the Prohibition Alct. and lined $100 and
costs. 'The new Prohibition Act pro-
vides that the Judge shall hear ev-
ery case at either one of the two
circuits in the county. nearest to the
residence of the defendant. This is
rather an awkward feature in the new
act, as the cast has to be tried, al#
ways at the court nearest to the place
where the defendant lives and there is
no provision made for the Judge hav~
lug to travel to the different circuits
every time the prosecutor- wishes to
bring on a case. The old act provided
that the Judge could hear the case
at any of the circuits at any time. in
conviction just obtained, this feature
was met with by the prosecutor, who
thought he could bring action at Sum-
merslde, but he 'found it would have to
be tried at Alberton and Judge Mc-
Qusrrie kindly consented to make a
special trip for the purpose.-H.
