of a number of new churches in Tor-'

Wiiliam Morrison and James Wilson,
charged with burglarizing the post
office in Goffstown, mode a complete
confession and led the police to where
they had concealed their loot.
Morrison, the elder of the two, con-
fessed to Inspector 'Hildreth first and
said they bud hidden a part of the
loot at Goflstown. Then Wilson,
learning what Morrison had done,
owned up also.
Wilson was handcuffed by Patrol-
man R. -I . Smith and taken to Goils-
town. There he conducted ofllcers to
ajtrce i11 the outskirts of the village,
\vhere he had buried a lot of stamp
bool-is and other property. On his re-
turn to the city he showed where he
had buried the remainder near the
west end of the North Wears rail-
road bridge, before crossing into the
railway yard.

$800,000 IN GOLD FOR
CANADIAN CURRENCY.
OTTAWA, Oct. 14-Since April
lst, last the Royal Mint has enrich-
ed Canadian currency by minting
$800,000 worth of Canadian gold coin
in demoninntions of live and ten dol-
ars. There is a , but not as yet
very large demand for the new gold
pieces and the output is now averag-
ing about $150,000 per month. The
banks as a rule are not very sympa-
thetic towards the popularization of
a Canadian gold coinage. They préefer
o keep their own notes in circula ion
as being easier to handle and at the
same time more prodtahle to them.
The government coin issues of the
mint as well as of the silver and
bronze coin issues depend largely on
the demands of the banks, as _trans-
mitted to the Finance Department
through the Receiver’s General offices
throughout the Dominion.

7 YEAR OLD MURDER.
AUGUSTA, Me., Oct. 14-Mrs.Elsle
Hobbs Raymond, of Poland, who has
been confined in jail hire since she
was indicted for murder last April,
will probably be tried at the term of
the Kennebec county court that con-
venes tomorrow. The case is one of
the most notable in thc criminal
annals of Maine. Mrs. Raymond is
accused of the murder of !.la.ttie
Hackett, a young girl of lleadileld,
who was called from her home by an
unknown person on the evening Of
August 17, 1905, nnd strangled to
death in a thicket near by. Siiirpiclon
soon fell upon Mrs.- l`\sy111onrl, an
acquaintance of the murdered girl,
who was believed to have hcen jeal-
ous of her. Mrs. Raymond and her
husband gave an account of their
movements on the -vening or the
crime which established an alibi that
the State could not End evidence
enough at that time to destroy. Last
spring, however, the prosecuting at-
torney presented newly discovered
evidence to the grand jury. with the
result lhat Mrs. Raymond was ln-
dicted on a charge of murder in the
ilrst degree.

M. MacFarland, an advertising mana-
ger, was placed on trial here today
for the second time for the murder of
his wife, Evelyn. Two hours after
MacFar1and was arraigned 5, jury had
been secured. MacFar1and was con-
victed at his first trial and condem-
ned to death, but the higher courts
ordered n new trial.

fast. discovered the bodies of M. A.
Crosby, cashier of the Bank of Adel,
and his wife. Mrs. Crosby evidently
had waited until her husband went, to
sleep, secured a pistol and shot him
and then turned the weapon on her-
self. -

TOKIO, Japan, Oct. 11-Another
storm swept the Southern coast to-
day. causing many deaths and doing
great damage to property and to
shipping. The steamer Yedg Maru
was sunk with heavy loss of life and
the steamer Aikawa Maru is missing.

vival again of rumors in circulation
some time ago of an edort made by
one of the big banks to secure posses-
sion of the Bank of New Brunswick.
At one time it was the Bank of Mon-
treal which desired to obtain the pro-
perty, and a good price was offered.
Nothing came of the movement, which
was decidedly unpopular in St. John.
The last report was that the Bank
of Nova Scotia would like to possess
the Bank of New Brunswick, but the
public never learned definitely what
offer, ii any, was made. Street talk
today revives the report that the
Bank of Nova Scotia is still anxious
to make a deal. H. A. Richardson,the
