Joe Patchen was recently sold for $15,000. The purchaser was J. W. Marks, of Chicago. The daughter of the Duke of Edinburgh has separated from her husband, the Grand Duke of Hesse. Earthquakes in the Leward Islands have killed a number of persons and caused a great destruction of property. Isaac Michaele, of New York, sues Fitzsimmons for $25,000 damages because the Australian’s dog “ Yarrum” scared bim into nervous prostration. Frederick Crowberger, a fourteen year old boy died a day or two ago froma blow with a ruler, said to have been inflicted by his teacher, Miss Johanna E. Scouler. A waterspout recently struck the house of a farmer named Branders, near Monti- cello, Ky., demolishing the hou-e and killing the farmer, his wife, child and two hired mea. O'Riellv, Dr. Kelly, John Griffith and Peter H. Trainor. Caledonisn Clnb—John 8. Macdonald, James Paton and Archibald McNeill. Loyal Orange Association— Duncan Mc- Neill, John Harper and Jobn Hamill. Sons of England—William Harris, George Worthy and J.C. Crabbe. Sons of lemperance (Victoria Division) —Rev. W. J. Kirby and J. J. Chappell. Independent Order of Oddfellows —Chas. J. Patton, Geo. 8. Taylor and John D. McMiilan , Mayor Dawson explained the object for which the meeting was called, and sub- mitted the draft programme prepared tor the occasion by the Council.* The pro- gramme included a procession of militia, firemen and all the societies, followed by patriotic addresses from 8 grand stand to be erected in Victoria Park. The school children are also to participate. In the evening the e will be a pyrotechnic dis- play. ‘ The delezates present promised to aid the council and do all in their power to make the celebration a credit to the prov- ince. Counrillor Hughes moved seconded by Mr. A. McNeill that each society be re- quested to appoint representatives to act on the general committe with the City Council. The motion carried, and the following representatives were appointed ; Military—Col. Moore, Col. Longworth, Col. Dogherty and Major Weeks. Sons of England—William Harrie. Benevolent Irish Society—Peter Mc- Court. Ancient Order of Hibernians—W. J. O'Rielly. Victoria Division, Sons of Temperance —dJ. J. Chappell, Fire Department—A. N. Large. . St. Dunstan’s College—Father Curran. Any other societies not represented are requested to select a representative and report to the City Clerk on or before Fri- day, the 14th of ‘May, inst. It was moved by “Councillor :Nicholson, and seconded by Mr. John S_ Macdonald, that the Mayor request Acmiral Erskine to send one or more ships of war to this port on the occasion of the Jubilee cele- bration. Carried. Should the warships be in port at the time, the programme outlined above wil! be supplemented by a review of sailors and marines on the Park. The meeting closed with the National Anthem.
