The pupils were examined in the primary department, and in English, Arithmetic and Algebra inthe advanced department by Mr. J. H. Monaghan, Principal of Hunter River, in Reading and Geography by Rev. Mr. Crawford, and in Latin, French, Geometry, Canadian History and Botany by the Principal, Me, Norton, In the different examinations the pupils acquitted themeelves adinirably, giving ample proof of the thvorougnness of the work done duringthe year. A pleasing feature of the examination was the contest in reading fur a prize offorel by Mr. Monaghan. About ai doz2n entered in the contest, bat the tinal was between Miss Azza Brownell and Miss Ella Bagnall. So close was the contest that a decision was reserved and a prize awarded to each af the young ladies. The examination being over, the pupils were addressed by Mr. A. B. Dickenson. He said the manner in which the exercises of the day had been carried out had afforded hini #gfeat amount of pleasure, while it was a public proof of the soundness and thoronghness of the educational advantages afforded by the New Glasgow School, and that it had never been in a more flour- i hing cond'tion. Mr. Monaghan was pleased to assist at the exXaminati as, and to bear witness to the highly creditable manner in which the pupils acquitted themselves. Thesubject upoh which they were examined were by no means easy, yet the answers given showed that the pupils were not only grounded in the general meaning of the lessons which they studied, but were also quite familiar with the genius of the languages, their peculiarities aud idiomatic expressions. Rev. Mr. Crawford exppressed himself as iad the highest degree pleased and edi- fied at all he had witnessed, and could * but endorse the statement that their school never was in a better condition, which reflected the highest credit upon their teachers, Mr. F. T. Norton and Miss Maggie Smith. Rowaihe were also made by Measrs. Sin,—A correspondent of Tur ExaMInER of Jane 12th, in writing about horses, makes 2 mean insinuation in the last para- yraph by asking the owners of ‘* Roaxby”’ to give thexcertificate of his registry in the stud bovk of the “Clydesdale Society of Great Britain and Ireland. There is no horse on the Island, as far as we know, of that name, but no doubt the writer of the article in question knew, or imagined that the public generally would understand it, to refer tothe imported Clydesdale horse ‘*Rokeby.” Rokeby is entered as a foal in volume 10, and registered in volume 13 of the Clydesdale Stud Book of Great Britain and Ireland, and he also comes of the best stock in Scotland. The certificate can be seen at any time by applying to the owners. ‘* Breeder,” who isevidently owner of a stallion that cannot begin to compare with Rokeby is no doubt jealous of the latter horse’s popularity. He had better examine the stud books he professes t» have in his possession a little more closely and bring out the horse he owns for exhibition. Rokeby’s stock already give promise of ex- celling any Clydesdale stock on the Island. Barperston & McLean, Owners of Rokeby. (Other papers please copy.) Address. To Wm.
