Administration! Every tub gbould etaad upon its owo bottom, and so should every Government. Nor will the leading part played by the Conserva- tives in forcing the railway matter upon the attention of the Parliament and people of Canada, and in committing the Gov- ernment of Canada to railway construc- tion in this Province, be forgotten when the Liberals seek to make capital out of it. Not the se at for Belfast only, but the c fice of Attorney Genera) wil] be rendered vacant by the judicial appointment. This important office must necessarily be filled promptly. It has been whispered abou, town, lately, that the Atterney—General’s office will be filled by the appointment of a geotleman who will] not be called upon to bold a seat in the Legislature. This plan, if it could be carried out, would be such a frank confession of weakness, such a bare- faced admission that the Government know that they have lost the confidence ofthe country, that we cannot believe that it will be entertaimed for a moment. It is, moreover, as everyone knows, coptrary to the principles of reepon- sible government, and contrary to the “nse of all adminietrations since the beginning of the Confederation era. Bear- ing this fact in mind the following pro- visions of the Act 53 Vic.. Capt. 4 seem, by implication, to be conclusive :— 40. There 18 no reason why two gates of entrauce should not stand side by side,” —Hon. George Foster,—who is leading the Opposition in the House of Commons in the absence of Sir Charles ‘l'upper— made the following remarks upon the death of Sir James Edgar: “Death has come very suddenly; it has come to our side of the House as weil. Colleagues of both sides bave been stricken down very suddenly without a note of wurning, and both sides have been afficted. It only goes to ehow us that, as my right hoo. friend has aaid, we are all living in the shadow of death, and it is a salutary lesson tous, in al] our little difterence*, which are only Jittle dif= ferences, we sre members of che common family bound over a very short road for a Jand unknown.
