Mrs. Gertrude Dunn testified that she was acquainted with Jeremiah and Isidore Doucette and saw both of them on the evening of July 13th. at Catherine Dou- cette's. Gaytown. She is (Mrs. Catherine Doucettc) the grand- mother o! the accused and the mother of the deceased, witness added. Those at the house were Claire Campbell. Willard Dunn. Parker Cummings, Art Hurry, Isidore Dou- cette. Jeremiah Doucettc. Kather- ine Doucette, Allan MacKinnon and herself, witness stated. Dancing and Playing Witness said it was about ten o'clock and added they were all drinking beer and Jeremiah Dou- cette was playing the guitar and Isidore Doucette was step-dancing. Jeremiah Doucette and Claire Campbell got into an argument, back and forth talking French. Jeremiah got mad and his grand- mother colled him out 1n the porch or outside the kitchen. I went out behind him, rwitncss stated. Witness said she saw Jeremiah pulling a knife from his pocket, holding it up above his head and shouting, “Ill kill the —-—.” He was referring to Claire Camp- bell and I told him not to mind Claire Campbell because he was drunk. I-Ie said "Okay, okay." Witness went back into the kitchen met her husband and said "Let's get out oi’ here." She testified that she could not see the knife as she was thinking of her grandmother and the light in the kitchen was yellow. It was a big knife. It was rot a pocket knife. It was an open knife which she had never seen before. After she met her husband they sat down for a few minutes. Isi- dore had been out and he came hock and started to ploy and Jeremiah started to dance. We only stayed about five minutes and went out. witness said. Witness said that Mrs. Jeremiah Doucettes name was not mention- ed while s. story was being told. She said Jeremiah was not reel cross. He was drinking s. lot of beer and his grandmother did not want him to drink it. Witness stated that she did not go to Mrs. Doucettes house very often but her husband. on Satur- day nights, mostly goes there for beer. She added that Mrs. Dou- cette was her grandmother. Witness Recalled Constable Augustus Dowling (recalled) told of seeing Isidore Doucetteb lord V B car parked facing east on Fitzroy Street on the morning of July 14th. It was opposite the residence of William Mullins three houses east or the b01138 of Jeremiah Doucctte, he sa . Cross examined by Mr. Bell he said it was at least three pro- perties or more. Mullins’ house is down the block about half way. It was the one with the statues. he said. Mrs. Helen Doucette testified that she was the wife of Jeremiah Doucette and lived at 219 Fitzroy Street. Questioned she said "We were married in Montreal and lived there for the first six or eight months and then came back to Charlottetown and we lived in Rocky Point for about a year-be- tween Rockv Point and Fairview" She testified that on the even- ing of July 13th. she was at her home until nine o'clock then went u to her sister's on Richmond Smet. The went up town ac- companied another sister-Eva --and looked around the stores for a pair of shoes. Later they went down to a cafe and got some tea before going home. "It was about ten after eleven when I left mv sister at the corner, Zakems store on the corner of Grafton and Weymouth,” witness stated. Witness said she went home and the children were asleep. She took see if there were any groceries de- livered from Burma's for Sunday. Jeremiah was supposed to have gone over and paid the bill and ordered groceries. He was homo earlier in the evening. Went To Grandmothers When witness did not discover the groceries she went out the back door to Gaytown to see if Jeremiah was there. She went. to his grandmother's. When witnggs arrived there she formed by his grandmother that he was not there. she said.
