As for the bolting on of brackets being the practice of the very best boiler makers in Canada, I deny it. TAYLOR, lome-head in question and the eover of a locomotive dome, which cannot properly be termed a dome at all. I deny that even in locomotives it is the universal custom to bolt on all brackets. It may be Ireland. But that dees not make it universal. The insinuations contained in the latter partsof the letter I would not notice were they not so directly penned against me personally (1 know well that Bruce Stewart never was one hundred mues from Charlottetown in his life to see anything done), that to make no reference to them would be unjust to myself and to my employers. Sir, the making of a bolt ig @ very smal! matter, but not being in even in my line of work, and I di not believe that it is mine or any other man’s right to usurp the another tradesman, I here cay that my nine years as foreman boiler-— maker for McKinnon & McLean, I have iever done anything in boiler making that { would have been afraid to let the inspec- tor or the owners eee me doing. Sir, 1 have a recommendation from the former as well as the present inspector, for my good workmanship, a fact which Bruce Stewart & Co. well knew when he used be name of being foreman in the sense of foreman boilermaker for McKinnon & McLean (a position he never held) to ybtain a boiler to build and did obtatn it on that rscommendation. As for caulking rivet heads cold, I have done co many times with the inspector and the owners watching, and I hope to do so many times again, having no —_— intention of leceiving or covering up bad work- manship, but of domz a very necessary piece of work and a thing which Bruce Stewart knows nothing about. He has now published his ignorance of the business by calling attention to what is done the world over and what everybody knows who has had any experience with steam boilers is absolutely mecessary at times, and what,I have no doubt, has been done on this twenty-years behind-the-date- Cuartes Wenster, Boiler maker. For many years | there has been a sail-boat on this route, steamer which now runs much more frequently than hitherio. Now, it is nearly a mile’s walk from the west end of the | town tothe ferry wharf-—very tiresome in | | but she has been driven off by the ferry | hot weather. Having off the sail-boat I would suggest to the Min- ister of Public Works, that the West River and Rocky Point ferry steamer should cal! at Connolly’s wharf going an. returning from Rocky Point, say at least twice a day both ways, for the convenience of the public. There would be no trouble at all in doing so. She could take up and driven at any time of tide, ana there would not be five minutes’ delay; and it would cer- tainly add to the earnings of the steamer. West-Enp Citizen.
