The ‘Ella Bb.” was then laying to under lower main topsail and storm try- sail until 1 p. m. The main _ top- sail blew out of the bolt rope, when a drag was used to keep her head to the sea, until the morning of the 9th, when a sea struck her, taking stauncheons, trysail, mast, and boom and gear attached, smashing weather pumps by the deck and breaking the wheel, shifting the ballast, and heaving her on her beam ends.
