To the Editor of the Patriot. Deak Sir,—I notice that you persist in charging the Hon. Donald Ferguson with being untrue to me in the late contest. I think it right that I should state publicly that your charge is ungrounded. The fact that I received on Lot 34, where Mr. Ferguson resides, and where his | personal influonce is greatest, a larger vote j than have ever before been given to a } Liberal-Conservative Candidate, is a suffi- ) cient answer to your accusation, ; On this same Township, Mr. Beer receiv- ed 110 votes, only 69 of which were given to Mr. McDonald. l am, Yours, etc., Davip Euay. j i Zo the Editor of the Exaviiner. ! Str,—The return of Mr. Henry Beer, (on Monday last, has been achieved by the * Mebyt s fever since he solicited our votes. Mr. i Beer knows weil that he never had a chance to be elected on any open, square issue ; and therefore he has always scheme |to get some one to act as hisdupe. On |his first election he cajoled Mr. Richard Reddin into ranning along with him. | Mr. Reddin’s friends supported Mr. Beer, ‘and placed him at the head of the poll ; ,but poor Reddin was left ont of sight by , the Beer party. The next dupe was Mr. John Maullins. Mr. Beer got in twice with the assistance ‘of Mr. Mullins; but that gentleman was : betrayed. In the late contest a yonng maa who had | for four sessions supported the Conserva- , tive party was induced to run in conjune- tion with Mr. Beer. Mr. McDonald was i promised that in return for the support ‘the united vote of his party, which he , claimed, to be very powerful. The result | goes to prove beyond question the treachery -of Mr, Beer. Mr. McDonaid’s friends, {at a great sacrifice of their own personal ‘and political feelings, voted for ‘‘Beer” -almest toa man; bat no effort worthy of | the name was made by Beer to his friends to vote for McDonald. While Mr. Beer | managed to get himself at the head of the ‘poll, McDonald has been left far behind. , The respective vote for Beer and MeDonald ‘tells its own tale, Beers majuity over |McDonald ONE HUNDRED AND ELEVEN. The plaintiff, eadeavoring to realize on said ‘stock, found it had no market value what- ever, and took action to set esi@e the sale, ‘alleging frand and false representation. So soon asa customer becomes dilatory in payment of grocery bills, and shows indis- position to settle, the grocer sends round a boy with a big bell. The boy stops in front of the delinqnent’s residence and rings the belli vigorously. He is soon told to go away, but never tekes the hint until the discovery is made that it is the grocer’s boy ‘‘who has come to stay” and to keep up the infernal clang of his bell. ‘‘ The re- sult has been, so far,” says the Jovrnal, ‘* in every case that the debtor has come in a very indignant frame of mind and settled up. A few weeks since the Rev. Abbe Larue, , parish priest of Roxton Falls, Quebec, was penenen to death in his parsonage, as was believed at that time, by accident.
