Corner Stone Ceremony At Hope R. Catholic Church Observing the age-old ritual of the Catholic Church. -His Excellency Bishop McEachern, of the d i 0 c e s e of Charlottetown, yesterday morning laid the corner stone of the new St. Anne's Church at Hope River and solemnly de- dicated it to the service and honor and glory of God. On this, his first official visit to the parish, he was welcomed by the parish priest, Rev. Father Dalton, who pledged the obedience and loyalty of the parishoners to His Excellency. Assisted by members of the clergy. Bishop McEachern, after completing the ceremony of the laying of the corner stone and de- dication of the beautiful new edifice to God entered the church officially accompanied by the clergy and escorted by an honor guard of Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus of Bishop McEachern Assembly under the jurisdiction of Sir William MacMillan. master of the degree for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward island. The Solmen High Mass was cele brated by Rev. Patrick Walsh with ' Rev. Father MacGuigan as d9":on and Rev. Father Bolger as sub deacon. all three being native sons of Hope River. The sermon for the occasion was Thlekamokaitomburningpulp reportedlyutaiire the west and of Water Street in Summerslde. scene of the fire was usedasanauxiliarydumplastfall and winter. The heavy smoke caused several familiesinitspathtotenlpor ily abandon their homes which suffered in various degrees from smoke damage. The fire was extinguished through the combined efforts of the Summerside Fire Department and a bull-dozer from Morrison and Macllae Ltd. During the height of the smoke a traffic menace existed-on the highway in this area, and this, to- gether with the problem of protect- ing a number of children who un- wittingly endangered their lives by trying to walk or run through the wide column of smoke created a problem for police. The traffic pro- blem was solved in a unique way Smoke Menace From Pulp Wood Peelings Fire In S'side, During Saturday by the arrival of Sony Hueatia of , Bumlnerside with s "waikie-talkie" radio unit which was left with a companion on one side of the smoke while his car containing a two-way radio was stationed on the other side of the smoke to work in conjunction with the "walkie- talkie" unit to regulate the flow of traffic so that vehicles were mov- ing ln only one direction through the smoke at any one time. A' short while after returning from the fire at the dump, the Summerside Fire Department re- sponded to their second call after a lull of several weeks without any fire alarms having been sounded. This time it was a shed in the yard of George Coyle on North M a r k e t Street which became ignited from garbage near the shed which had, in some manner. blazed up. There was some fire damage to the side of ,the shed. but the blaze was quickly brought under control when the firemen arrived. Continued fzom page 6 islanders Robert Chandler.
