Prceldcnfa Report Our first and one: of our biggest job; was the cutting, saw- ing and eventually landing 30.000 feet of lumber at the site of the new Recreational Center. A great amount of planning. work and co- operation was necessary to make this undertaking I success and as you know the undertaking was carried through to a successful conclusion. In August we held our annual dance in the Potato Were- houee. which was up to the high standard of other years and was 1 complet financial succeee. L. Boudirenult Ind his co-operating Councillors for their wholeheart- ed acceptance of our proposition to erect a Recreational Center. working in eflllintion. Our own efforts. no matter how great. would have availed us but little had we not been fortunate in hav- ing in ofllco a Mayor and Council. the majority of which. affiliated with us and worked to make our dreams in reality. The culmination of our combined efforts; was of cows the ottlclal opening of the no bulldlnz. which was held on January lath. 1950. On that occas- ion. which will always be a mem- oralble one. we received the fullest assistance and co-operation of the citizens of the Town and surround- ing districts, with the result that the event outdid our fondest ex- pectations. I cannot close without thanking all those who laboured for our cause. in the entertainment field. in cutting lumber. in the dis- mamtling of the old rink and in the erection and opening of the new Center. We have materially assisted in the erection of a fine building, which will serve our Town and its citizens for many years to co e. In this we can take just pride, At Christmas we continued our practice of giv- ing baskets to the shut-ins of the Town. We provided the electric scoreboard for the new Recreation- al Center. which was built by our secretary. A Committee from our organization waited on the Town Council and obtained their spon- sorship of the Dental Clinic for the children. Certain cumimittments relating to the new building have yet to be met and our ordinary activities still to be carried on. as in the past. Therefore let us continue to keep up our interest and member- ship in the League. and go from past successes to future oncs. Having played a great part in matters vital to community wel- fare ‘work in the past, let us re- solve to continue to connect our- selves with worthwhile move- ments for the betterment of our Town and it‘: people.
