This is a factor which should be kept in mind in growing birds for marketing this season. Dressed poultry has now been put on a graded basis which apparently increases its poularlty and at the same time insures better returns for real quality products to the produc- ers. ' Inspectors of the Poultry Division of the Dominion Live Stock Branch of the ~Department of Agriculture, , state that a real dealer demand fer "certificates" has developed. Dealers now prefer to bu: by certificate and in n number of instances ‘ ‘ sr- riving on the market without gey- ernmerft inspection have been pus- ed up in, ifavor of shipments avail- able. cwftiiejmarket carrying the gpv- ernment certificate of inspection. So thoroughly has the new system of grading dressed poultry been done . in operation that the confidence of jibe trade has been compistcy se- ,cured. The dealer ‘knows thltlfihen Ihe is buying s box of goveramnt imspbmu birds he is getting exactly the quality stencilled on the package. Consumers also are becoming fairly well acquainted with sraded and buying with confidence in‘ the quality of the product they are get- ting. ' f ' Practically all the poultry market- ed from Prince Edward Island, Inni- toba, Saskatchewan and Alberta is now sold on government certificate of inspection, and the work is gradually extending in 0n- tario, British Columbia, New Bruns- wick and Nova Scotla- The ready acceptance which ‘has greeted poultry grading in the Wflt- ern provinces in particular is dill directly to the special attention which has been given to the develop- merit of pbunry production an ti" farm as a "cash crop" asset.- During the fail of i929 in Sask- atchewan and in the adloininl PH"- moo; [n intensive educational pro- gramme devcloped new 111N109‘ 1!! poultry production.
