The doctor examined his leg and and and sent aboyto Mr. Mitchell, asking if he would like it sewed up. Mr. Mitchell said no, not knowing the extent of the injury. The dog was sent home, but soon returned and would not be cemforted till the doctor, taking pity on him, sewed upthe wound, Thomas Jefferson wrote to President Moaroe in 1832:—“I candidly confess that I bave ever looked upon Cuba as the most interesting addition which could ever be made to our system of States.” The proposal tooccupy Cuba temporarily is preparatory to permanent acquisition.
