News &iiiews ...E. Filled with New Year's resolu- tions for more work. both In etu- dies and extra-curricular activi- ties, the majority of Prince of wales college students returned from their three weeks' holiday lut wool: to begin the last lap of the college year. Student Council President Bar- ry Beers started extra-curricular activities rolling by calling a Council meeting last Thursday night. one of the main topics discussed was the report on the finances of The Times for the first half of the year. The report was given by Winston Smith who is in charge of that department. The Council then turned their thouhts to hockey and plans were made for the exhibition game against Kings College of Halifax. The game is scheduled to take place in the latter part of January or the first of February. This years edition of the welsh- men team is probably one of the youngest ever to wear the red and blue colors. The majority of lhe players are in the juvenile brack- tt and the greater number of the team personnel are from first anc. second year classes. Despite their youth. the players will make up in fight and determination what they lack in experience and weight. The learn has already played two exhibition games against the Murray Harbour Bruins of the Kings County League and has been victorious on both occasions. On Saturday night. Jan. 5th. they wulloped the Bruins 10-1 and early this week they defeated a strengthened Murray Harbour squad 6-1. The College has been operating an intei-class hockey league called the House League which was very successful during the first term. From these I-louse League teams were selected the personnel of the College squad. The Prince of Wales team is coached by Jack "spy" Ready and is under me management of Moon M-ulllns. With regards to me exhibition game against King's. the council plans on staging ll. hockey dance to celebrate the occaszon. The dance will probably take place at the Rollaway. Part of King's financial burden in making the trip here will be shouldered by P W. C. and the A A. A. head. Brier Chandler. suggested that a social be held to help defray the expen- ses. He planned on having the students pay for the dance as as wel' as the outsiders. The social committee would receive their re- rular share from the outsiders but the proceeds from the students would go into the expenses for the trip. The President. of the social com- mittee decided that the social should be held on Thursday. but this was later changed to Monday the twenty-first. They also plan- ned to continue the afternoon skate which was moderately suc- cessful last year. The council hop- cxl to get the Holy "edeemer rink since the Forum is booked up. The hopes for this years bas- ketball team sre not so bright as last year with only two of last sea- son's team members available for play. They are John lRadari Mc- Naught and Joey I-lcyt. The boys were. late in commencing practices and as in result had only a week to prepare for league play. They will play the first game against the Y. M. C. A. on Saturday night and under the guidance of Coach Earl Nicholson may will likely give BULL.ETINS mom isianulun wmirssI)'i:. mung OWL VOICE!
