BURKE The death of Mrs. Walter Burke. formerly Mary Alice Howard. daughter of the late George. How- ard and Mary Seller of Winsloe, came as a shock to her family and friends. Although she has been in a wheelchair for two years and had been helpless for over a year. she seemed as usual until Sunday morning, July 8th. when God took her to her Eternal Home. Her husband, Walter E. Burke, predeceased her by nearly 15 years and one daughter died in infancy. She was born October 29th, 1874 and died July llth. 1956. She loved the church and was I teacher in the Sunday School at Grace Methodist Church and then in Trinity United Church for I great many years. She took great interest in the Women's Mis- sionary Society and was I life member. Whenever and wherever she served it was with dignity and loyalty and many of the church organizations are the better for her faithful work. She leaves to mourn her passing four daughters and one son: Lila, Mrs. Elmer Gamble of Albany: Florence, Mrs. Louis Mabey of Millldgeville. St. John. N.B.: Daisy, Mrs. Leonard Campbell of 107 Adelaide St.. St. John, N.B.; Edna. Mrs. Alton Rodd of Milton, P.E.I.: and Earl of Southport, where she had made her home for the past 18 months. She has 13 grandchildren and 3 3 great-grandchildren. Left to cherish the memory of I devoted sister are Louisa. Mrs. John Bertram of Fredericton. P. El. and Esther, Mrs. W.H. John- son. of Sidmont Ave.. Charlotte- town. The funeral service was from Trinity United Church. Her Nep- hew. Mr. George Johnson. sang very beautifully a special favor- ite of hers "The0ld Rugged Cross'. The service was conducted by Rev. Howard Christie assisted by Rev. A.S. Weir. The hymns used were The Twenty-Third Psalm" Ind 'Unto The Hills". The Pall bearers were Messrs. Elmer Gamble. Louis Mabey, Leo- nard Campbell, Alton Rodd. Jos- cph Neal. and Elwin Burke. Interment was in the People's Cemetery.
