I do,I do, IIIYG. “Teaching us that wo must cease to do gvil and learn to do well." This is the Christian tmth ` that teaches_me to any nngodliness and wordly lust, and to live soberly as to myself, righteonsly towards my neighbor, E001? Wwllfd Him unto whom I owe so much. Now, here are the three positive attitudes of the Christian: 1. He is a sober-minded man in his relations towards all the world around him. 2. He is honest in his dea- lings with his fellowmen, and' 3, He is godly in his conduct toward his Mziktt. Sober-mindedness-that’s the regula- ting force of every good man’s lite ,that makes him step along in an even, smooth way toward the good world. Some people think heaven is away off yonder, and some think hell is away down yonder, but I want to tell you that heaven is on a deadlevel with ever good man`s heart, and I want to tell you the way to heaven is a dead level Christ dug down the mountains and illed up the valleys, and the way to heaven is a dead level. and the way to hell is a dead level, and there is only one road in the moral universe, and one end of that road is hell and the other end of the road is heaven, and it doesift matter so much who you are, as which way you are going. Don`tyou see? So- berly, righteouslyga sober-minded man. I like a .-ober-minded man-a man who will do the same thing all the time; not one of those men who will do something during the revival meeting, ind who doesn’t recollect that he did anything ont of the revival, and one day he will shake your hand and ano- ther day he will hardly know you when he meets you on the street. I don’t like one of this peisimmon-headed sort, of fellows; I want a fellow who knows you when he meets you, everywhere and w ill do the same thing everywhere had under all circumstances. Sober- minded l A Christian man ought to be lober-minded, and rest on this one pro- mise-"all things work together for good to them tha: love God”-soben _minded as to ourselves and righteous towards our neighbsrs. Honesty! We want in this country men in the Church of God who will do what they say they will do. 'Ihat’s it. Why, sir, a man’s Methodism isn’tworth anything to him in this country, and a m»n’s Baptism or his Presbyterianism jen’t worth anything to him. You go down to a store to-morrow and want a -thousand dollars worth of goods on credit, and the fel ow says :“Can you give me lny security?" "No 1 am a Mcthodist.,. “O,Lor¢\ ! Lord _ ' _ _ 0 ' Lyttleton says of him, that he wrote - "no line which dving he could wish to I termed adtcd \\ liich I ti cud now undo? Samuel. the prophet, was a righteous man, and when he walked outto his burial place, all Israel gathered around him. and the clear voice of the old pro- phet rang out as he asked these ques- tions: Whom have I cheated? Whom have I defrauded P" “Of whom have I received a bribe of money to blind my eyes?" And all Israel answered back, ‘ No one." O, that was a grand vic- tory." ~ But, bretheren, the man who does not recognize his obligations to God is but half a man at best. I have my re- lations towards my family, and my re- lation toward my country. and my re- lation towards my God. I will meet the demands of my children at my home. I will meet the demands of my country. 1 will meet the demands of the God _that made me and them. I am good for all worlds. A godly man is one is one that does everything with refer- ence to the great eye of God that is looking down upon him. a man that is godly in his life and character. and that does right toward the God 'that made him. Where do we find examples of godly men P St. Paul. the author of this text, was a godly man. He lived for God, and counted all things as loss that he might please God. In his dying moments he sat in his dark dungeon and wrote in his last letter to Timothy: “The time of my departure is at hand.” _ O, what a thought! bt. Paul meant __ to say to him: -'I shall have a cold supper to.night and a cold breakfast in the morning; I shall sleep on a hard bed to-night, but I shall take dinner in heaven to-morrow with God and the O angels," He talked about his depar- ture as a schoolboy talks of leaving school for home, and when his head was severed from his body God stooped down, picked up that bloody head, and placed a crown of everlasting life upon it. He was a godly man, and God will take care of that sort of man, living or dying. At times within the past ten years I have thought of going back to the practice of law, and of accumulating gi fortune that my family might be pro- vided for, and of preaching the Gospel _in afterlife; but with the blessed hope -_ of God before me I have continued right on. My eyes are on something better, grander and nobler. \Vhen kind friends in Nashville 'si-iid: ‘-Here is a ten Ithousand dollar home, and we will give lthousends in bonds if you make your home in our midst," I replied: -‘No. In our own quiet little cottage my wife and children and myself love God and are striving to get to heaven. WEAK AND RUN DOWN. ' Among many in Ottawa and the vici- nity who have bleu benefited one way or another by the use ef Dr. Williams’ Pink Pills for Pale People, the Journal has learned of the case of Mrs. Gilchrist wife of Mr. T. V. Gilchrist, of Hinton- burgh. Mr. Gilchrist keeps a grocery at the cornor of Fourth Ave. and Cedar- street, and is well known to a great many people in Ottawa as well as to the vil- lagers of this suburb of the Capital, Mrs. Gilchrist stares that while in a I “run down” condition during the spring of 1897, she was greatly strengtlined and built up by the use of Dr.Wi2liams’ Pink Pills. Speaking of the matter to a Journal reporcf, she stated that while able to go about at the time she was fat from well; her blood was poor, she Was subject to head-aches, and felt tired after after the slightest exertion. She had read different times of cures effected by the use of Dr. Williams’ Pink Pills, and decided to try them. She was benefited by the lirst box and continued their use until she had taken live boxes, when she considered herself quite recovered. Mrs. Galchrist says that she always stoongly recommends Dr. Williams Pink Pills as a builder and strengthener; when ‘~Hnsband,Iam prouder of you for that Church Sei-vces _ A C°i*‘“”‘ chili- _ I _ ' i r I ' than for any other act in your history.” ~ _ if ` _ _ _ N » _ ._ ci I ‘° ti .. .. .. ..e::i:.t’;‘;.s:.i.‘; si.. 9 | | C E ion t at am ettinfr i er an ' - '°" _ ' ° ' l - » er. 1 spmpadiize ii Qomi deal will): 131,, $1i>0‘i"§i{aC§i'i'.i'.i°`g_1p_méi_ggn gggaggihtifzgyé Ladies, ekiP this _Paragraph !_ It_ is I I ‘ l x . . ll unfit for ublication It ot into “Farewell earth and lm I so catechismg 2.30.
