a ES “Ty Tease —- The French “Mystery.” The spzculative political affairs of France are more or less involved in mys- tery. Republican regime. It such. Royalist race favored it too. Why not the younger branches of the Bonapartists ? was if the descendants of Philip Egalite lean| towards a republic, why not the descend- ants of the * Little Corporal ?”’ That a Bonaparte hoping for succession, in time to ‘etal noes, should favor the Re- publican Government that he finds exist- ing, is no great historical wonder. It was in that way that their great founder began, and in that way he completed his career. He joined the Republic, served the Republic, propagated the Republic, fourht for the Republic, and mastered the Republic. The Family Tree of the Bonapartes did not “ Spring from the midriff of a prostrate king but sprang up in a geveration from the compost heap of the Revolution. Of course the times have changed since young Napoleon was sent to clear the streets of Paris, and secure the peace of the Assembly. It is one of the most re- markable things about a remarkable era that the Revolution of 1798 was accom- plished and the Republic established to- tally against the will of the French people. ‘There is a Republic, but “there are no Republicans,” said one of the agitators. It was terror that produced the submis- sion. In England, a century before, a new dynasty was established in peace with the vast majority of the people still true in heart to the deposed Stuarts. It was the aristocrats who brought sbout the revolution. Perhaps we may say it was the aristocrats who brought about the latter revolution too—in a different manner. But, as has been said, the traditions of the Bonapartes are strong, and as one Crown came out of the Repuvlic for them, they perhaps hope for another in the same line of acquisition—at least that may be Jerome’s way of looking at it. The spiritof the great uncle pre- vails still. In his last will and testament the late Napoleon II[. addressed these words to his son the ill-fated Prince Im- perial : “ You must reflect that from the heavens on high those whom you have loved look down upon you. It is the soul of my great uncle that has always inspired and sustained me. It will be the same with my son, for he will be worthy of his name.’ No one can say that the young Prince has been unworthy of it. But the soul of the great uncle will witness no more deeds of his. Itis Jerome who takes up the Crown, and gives it to the Republic. Will the Republic ever give itback again? ‘This is the French mys- tery. k Yourself these Questions. Ch'town, April 30, 1879—3m law CATARRA, Constitutional Catarrh © Remedy CURES CATARRH, Hear what a Reverend Gentleman says of the * Constitutional Remedy. T. J. B. Harpine, Esq., Brockvi le, Ont. :— Dear Srr—It is now two years since your ‘‘Censtitutional Catarrh Remedy’ was intro- duced tome. Ihave waited this ong to see if the cure would remain permanent before do- ing this, my duty, to you, as at first the happy effects seemed to me to be ‘‘too good to be true.” 1 was afilicted in my head for years before I suspected it to be Catarrh. In reading in your Circular I saw my case described in many par- ticulars. The inward ‘‘drop” from the head had become very disagreeable, and a choking sensation often preventing me from lying long, I would feel like smothering and be compelled to sit upin the bed. My health and spirits were seriously affected. When your agent came to Walkertown in August, 1876, I secured three bottles. Before I had used a quarter of the contents of one bottle I found decided re-. lief, and when I had used two bottles and a third, I quit taking it, feeling quite cured of that ailment, and have not used any since until of late I have taken some for a cold in my head. A sense of duty to sufferers from that loath- some disease, Catarrh, prompts me to send you this Certificate, unsolicited, with leave to make what use of it yon may see proper Yours truly, W. TINDALL, Methodist Minister. Port Elgin, Ont., Aug. 24, 1878. Ask for Littlefiel!’s Constitutional Catarrh temedy and take no other. T. J.
