The “Battle Cry of Peace-" shown
at the Pe0ple's Theatre yesterday sf-
temcen and' evening more than Justi-
fled the greatest claims made in its
behalf bythe management. By Ian
the most stupendous motion picture
production ever successfully at-
tempted in America, it beggars de
scription and leaves on the specta-
tor a mingled impression of fear and
wonder. It is unique in many respects.
Corrsldered purely as n moving pic-
ture, “The Battle Cry of Peace” is
a triumph of organization. The ten
tremendous reels embrace every
phase of the cincmatograph art, and
the settings are extraordinarily el-
aborate thousands of dollars' worth oi’
Property having been destroyed in
the effective production of the film.
As a drama the picture is touching,
and the characters are portrayed' by
the most eminent actors in America.
Charles Richman takes the leading
role as the insistents advocate of
preparedness, wlillle Nome Talmadge,
one of the most popular film stars,
us the daughter of a multi-millionaire
(\vh0 is rigidly opposed to war and
urges "peace at any price”) and
sweetheart of the hero, lends a pa-
thetic charm to the picture. The
story is simple. The son of a wealthy
family, engaged to the railway mag-
nato's daughter urges on that paci-
fist the criminality of unprepared-
ness amd the “peace talk,” and en-
deavours to get him interested in
a navy-building proposition. But the
millionaire, who detests anything not
immediately concerned with money
making scoffs the suggestion
and lends his influence to attain
(unwittingly) the object of the spy,
who poses as a friend of the peace
party. In 'the meantime, while Am-
erica is ra/nting of peace, the ene-
my stesls a march on her, and in a
brief decisive naval engagement the
U. S. fleet- undermanned and un-`
equipped- is hopelessly defeated.
The enemy immedialtely destroys
New. York, wiblich is invaded. the
homes of the wealthy, not excepting
the "peace" millionaire, are violated,
and' a mild example of the horrors
perpetrated on Belgium is given. The
great metroplis is overrun by drunk-
en troops and the sweethearts are
separated, the ma/n being taken out
with scores of other helpless citizens
and ruthlessly shot down by ma-
chine guns. The girl succeeds in kil-
ling the spy, who has seized her, but
she is subsequently taken prisoner.
together with her mother and sister.
and they are lod'ged in a room to
await brutieh disposal of the omcer
and his gang. To save their honor.
the mother shoots her children and
falls-herself a prey to the lust of the
Invader-s.` The picture, oi' course, is
primarily intended as a warning to
-Ulb United States against unpre-
pnredness, and' ss such is a terrible
indictment of the military weakness
of that country. It advocates pre-
paredness not for wnr. but against
war. There were large audiences at
the I’eople’s last night to witness
this magnificent photo-drama, which
is really a forceful recruiting appeal, nor instructive. My apologiei td 3512-- Ind-is useful in n hundred ills in

will now be able to cook 'more and
better food in less space because of
the new alcohol range in the galley.
The new alcohol range has a vertical
boiler which heats to a temperature
of 450 degrees and which will broil
thick steak in' ten minutes'. A ther-
momeier on the outside tells when
the temperature is high enough to do
the required work.
Each unit of the stove can be used
separately, so that the camper or the
automobilist can take as large a stove
ss' he desires, and the yacht can be
equipped with one which will just fill
the space devoted to it in the gallery.
The Pullman stove, as adopted by an
Eastern road, has five different com-
partments. including a plate warmer
and occupies a space in the galfiery of
eighteen by twenty-seven inches.
The' burners' make the alcohol into
gas before it is lighted and the' fuel
consumption is reduced from twenty-

ordinary alcohol stoves. Heretofore
