The same man es- caped from jail about six weeks ago while serving a ten-day sen- tence for being drunk. United Baptists ilolll Meetings At linutsford The P. E. I. United Baptists held their falldistrict meetings in the Knutsford United Baptist Church. Tuesday. September fith. Three sessions, held morning, afternoon, and evening were largely attended. most of the United Baptist Churches on the Island having de- legates in attendance. The Moder- ator of the district. Rev. J. A. Dav- ison of Charlottetown, was in the chair. The clerk of the district Rev. E. J. Barrass of Summerside was at the desk. The work of the day opened with devotional exer- cises led by the Moderator who spoke on “the hand of God". During the business session Rev. Maurice Fletcher of Montague was welcomed as a pastor recently settling on the island. Rev. Edwin Simpson. Rev. J. B. Wilson. and Rev. A. D. Matheson were welcom- ed as guests attending the district meetings. The secretary expressed regrets at the inability of Rev. C. A. Hicks to attend the gathering due to ill health. The Moderator presented his re- ‘ port on the sending of parcels of food and clothing to Great Britain. which was duly adopted, warm thanks being extended to Rev. J. A. Daviaon for his work in this connection. Rev. F. A. Brjllen nf (‘rnlral Bedeque gave a report revealing that during tha last. financial year the churches of the district had not only far exceeded the amounts asked for denominational enter- prises but» had given a total amount which was the largest in the history of the Baptist Church- es on the Island.
