At- lantic salmon fishing season in provinces touching the gulf of St. Lawrence. in a statement issued Wednesday through the Quebec maritime fisher- ies department. the committee also announced that the maximum catch for sportsmen will be six salmon per day and 21 per week. There is no bag limit for commercial fisher- men. ' The regulations apply in Quebec, New Brunswick, N o v a Scotia. Prince Edward Island and on the west coast of Newfoundland. Committee members adopted the regulations unanimously to allow Atlantic salmon to run freely into salmon'rivers to spawn. The prime minister and Veterans Minister Lapointe conferred for_30 minutes with a legion delegation headed by president Dr. C. B. Lumsden of Wolfville. N. S. "We are very disappointed." Dr. Lumsden told a reporter after the meeting. "This will awaken wide- spread indignation and resentment among veterans." The legion asked that war veter- ans’ allowances at least be included in the terms of reference of the Commons veterans‘ affairs com- mittee. which holds its first meet- ing.today. The government has ruled out discussion of WVA he- lore the committee. . "WVA is the most pressing prob- lem in veterans legislation." Dr. Lumaden said. “We are going to bring it up in our brief to the com- by the heels." "We have the feeling the gov- ernment is not aware how acute the need is for higher WVA." Present basic allowance is 850 a month for a single veteran and $90 for a married veteran. The legion wants the rates increased to $60 and 8120, respectively. Total permissible ceilings allowed under WVA are $720 a year for a single recipient and $1,200 for a married recipient. The legion is asking that these ceilings be raised to $1.200 and $2,000.
