by Mare MacDonald Well the Major League baseball playoffs are in full swing (pardon the pun) and ordinarily nobody would give a rat’s ass. However, this World Series will be a subway series with the New York Mets playing the New York Yankees. Personally I won’t really care until it is the Toronto Blue Jays and the Montreal Expos in the October classic. And I’ Il only really enjoy it then because it’ll piss the hell out of the Yanks (the people and the team). But at the rate the ‘Spos are going, they’ll probably be the Wichita Eagles before long, and at the rate Bouchard is screwing up Quebec, even the Montreal Damn Yankees Canadiens, the epitome of home- town teams, will be moving south of the border. One thing I don’t get about the whole baseball set up is that you can finish third in your divi- sion and still ‘not make the damn playoffs. I’d have to say the NBA has the best arrangement: four teams in each league make it but the first round in the best of 5 games to weed out the weak teams early on so the playoffs don’t last into August like the NHL. ' And what the hell is with this XFL business? Besides the fact that it is going to be run by that idiot Vince McMahon who brought us that wonderful redneck-loved- soap-opera-for-middle-aged-loos- er-trailer-park-trash-low-lives, the WWF. Who needs more football? There is already the NFL season followed by the Probowl, followed by the NFL in Europe and then they start showing pre-season NFL again. Plus you got CFL and NCAA college football to boot (ok now I’m pissing myself off with the puns). The funniest shit is that from what I heard McMahon tried to buy the CFL. It is kinda like when the creator of Beverally Hills tried to buy the rights to Degrassi. 90210 was no Degrassi and XFL will be no CFL, eh! PS. If George Bush Jr. (a.k.a. Shrub) and Stockwell Day both win their respective elections, me and any other sane person are mov- ing to Cuba.
